Sam stood, leaning against the back of his office chair. Brandy's dad choosing to sit on the sofa. Carl Berry cut right to the chase, pouring his heart out and explaining his actions. Sam listened intently to every word, not wanting to interupt the proud fathers' flow.
It seems the Big Bad Daddy routine was just that, a routine. A test to see if Sam was a worthy suitor for his beloved baby girl. Sam understood and was relieved to know this man, the father of the woman he loved didn't have a low opinion of him at all. Or at least tolerate him.
Once Carl was finished, Sam took a deep breath and began. "I do love your daughter Mr Berry. I love her more than I thought it possible to love anyone. Now I won't lie, it's been quick and it's been unexpected. But the feelings aren't any less true or real." Sam paused for a breather. "I will always be there for her. For however long she wants me around. I won't ever leave her, unless she tells me to. But even at that, I'll never stop loving or caring for her. But I don't want it to end, I want to be with Brandy for the rest of my life."
Sam walked over to reach for Carl's hand. "I promise you, I'll look after your daughter. Take care of her."

"I do love your daughter Mr Berry. I love her more than I thought it possible to love anyone. Now I won't lie, it's been quick and it's been unexpected. But the feelings aren't any less true or real."
Carl was watching Sam intently as he spoke, it seemed that Brandy had got the 'body language watching' from her father. Sam had meant his words, and this was something he almost didn't believe. But it was something that made him very very happy, beyond the shadow of a doubt.
"I will always be there for her. For however long she wants me around. I won't ever leave her, unless she tells me to. But even at that, I'll never stop loving or caring for her. But I don't want it to end, I want to be with Brandy for the rest of my life."
Well, that was kind of a strange thought that went through Carl's head right there - he might very well be looking at his future son in law. With that thought in his mind, he was surprised that Sam had reached to put his hand on Carl's to reassure him.
"I promise you, I'll look after your daughter. Take care of her."
"You have a very good heart. I can see why my daughter chose you. It is nice isn't it? To find a woman that completes you? I don't know where I would be without Megan. Probably just a lonely old b@sterd if you ask me"
Carl laughed warmly at the thought and rose to his feet, clearing his throat as he motioned his head toward the door.
"Let's go and reassure Brandy that I haven't torn your head off. You will be coming by the motel later with Brandy won't you? We will only be down for a couple nights at the most but I know Megan would love to spend as much time with the both of you as possible. It's a woman thing."

Sam looked up at the taller man as Carl stood upright. He nodded wistfully. "I understand what you mean. Before Brandy, I struggled to find anyone to really bond with. She's real special...though I don't suppose I need to tell you that" he smiled, glad to have come to an understanding.

"Good idea, I best get back out to the bar and help out front before I have a mutiny on my hands." he opened the door to let Carl out. "Sure, we'll be there."
Sam breathed out in silent relief. Things weren't looking so bad afterall. He'd bonded or begun to at least come to an understanding with Mr Berry of there love for Brandy. The worst of it was over, at least for the mean time. Sam was sure there would be more questions.

"I understand what you mean. Before Brandy, I struggled to find anyone to really bond with. She's real special...though I don't suppose I need to tell you that"
Well, that explained the red head's comment about the girls. Carl could only imagine how many times that one had been married. Carl made his way back to the table, after Sam had reassured him that both him and Brandy would be coming over to the motel.
As expected, Brandy had a worried look on her face.
"So, did you scare him away completely papa?"
"No. I don't think so. You stick with this one Brandy, (lightly patting her knee) he is a keeper."
Brandy looked a little shocked, was the whole 'I'm gonna kill your boyfriend' attitude just an act? Curiously she found herself looking at Sam, wondering exactly what he must of said to her father that made her father change his mind so drastically.
Before she could question much further, Carl had stood up and motioned to Megan.
"Let's go dear, we have a lot to do today"
"Ah yes, of course I suppose we do. You will be by the motel later right Blueberry?"
Urg. Blueberry. Brandy hated that nickname when she was growing up and now that she was 21, she still had to hear it.. not a fun happy time at all!
"Sure mom, we will be there"
Brandy sat there by herself for a moment, watching her parents leave before she eased out of her seat and went to the front of the bar where Sam was.
"I take it you must of said something really good to my father. And you survived. I won't lie hun, I'm very impressed"

Sam made his way back out to the bar front and as expected got a surly look from Arlene and a snide remark about leaving them with all the work. Sam waved her off with a smile, not even Arlene's complaining could bring him down right now.
Sam watched the Berry's leave the bar and then gazed over towards Brandy. He gave her a warm smile as she got up from the table and came over towards him at the bar.
"I take it you must of said something really good to my father. And you survived. I won't lie hun, I'm very impressed"
Sam shook his head and put another round of drinks on a tray for Arlene to take over to the customers' table. She gave them both a knowing grin and a wink and left them to it. Sam looked back to Brandy. "It wasn't really that bad. He just needed to know I was on the level with you. He just wanted to make sure, that's all. Father's prerogative I guess." Sam reached a hand out towards Brandy.
"What time are we expected at the motel?"

Brandy was a bit annoyed at Arlene, but lucky for Arlene - Brandy didn't hold grudges. She offered Arlene a nod, and then turned her attention back to Sam.
"It wasn't really that bad. He just needed to know I was on the level with you. He just wanted to make sure, that's all. Father's prerogative I guess."
"I almost expected him to try and scare you away by telling you my darkest secrets. Fathers tend to act differently with daughters I guess"
Brandy reached her hand out for his as he reached for her's, lightly entangling their fingers together. Even that simple gesture, warmed Brandy's heart.
"What time are we expected at the motel?"
"They said after supper, can you leave the bar early?"

"They said after supper, can you leave the bar early?"
Sam looked at his watch and then at the bar. Customers were pretty thin on the ground, only the really hardcore drinkers stuck it out. No doubt just wanting to relax at home, no shame in that considering the last week or two. Sam grinned as he turned his head back to Brandy. "I'll just close up early. Get those lazy bums outta here and give everyone the rest of the night off."
"The Night off?" Sam could swear Arlene had a radar for moments like this.
Sam nodded back, still smiling. "Sure, you and Terry want to head out now. That's fine, go hang out with your kids." Sam didn't need to tell her twice. Soon she was out back squealing excitedly to Terry. Terry insisted on cleaning up the kitchen before he left. Sam thanked him and told him to come in an hour later tomorrow. Just for the hell of it.
The customers were a different kettle of fish and not too eager to leave. Especially one Miss Jane Bodehouse. Sam called someone to come pick her up, trying to be heard over Jane's pained howls at being kicked out of her favourite place to be.
Sam gave Brandy a look. It just screamed 'I cannot wait to get the hell out of here.'

"I'll just close up early. Get those lazy bums outta here and give everyone the rest of the night off."
Brandy had a confused expression on her face, closing the bar early was something Sam rarely did. However, after the past couple of days and the Maryann madness - they all deserved it. Besides, her parents would only be in Bon Temps for a short amount of time after all.
Arlene looked very excited, especially when Sam said they could go home early. Terry insisted on cleaning up first, which.. Brandy thought was very noble, Terry had a very good work ethic!
The local drunks weren't too excited about having to leave early, some - like Jane Bodehouse, were refusing to leave. It was at that moment, Brandy wished she was as gutsy as her mother who simply did a little spell to get that table of gossips to leave in a hurry.
"Jane, I heard Mike Spencer is outside waiting for you. I think he even has an extra beer with him, you wouldn't want to keep old Spencer waiting would cha?"
Well, that worked - Jane beelined for the door and the rest of the locals seemed to be staggering out until the bar was empty. While Sam went to lock the front door, Brandy watched him and crossed her arms curiously.
When oh when was he going to make 'the' move again? She had done really well forcing Jack out of her thoughts (except in her dreams which she couldn't control) so why was Sam still having such problems with it?
Maybe it was a man thing.

Sam locked the door behind Jane and turned to face Brandy, his back pressed up against the door. He had a sly grin on his face. "You are a lifesaver. I thought I'd never get rid of that ole lush"
Sam stood for a moment gazing at her. He wanted to rush over there, pull her close and kiss her deeply. But a small part of him just wasn't able to get him to move. This whole ordeal with Jack was really frustrating. He wanted Brandy so badly, but the idea of a Vampire - not to mention a Vampire like Jack - knowing the couples most intimate moments made him feel sick.
"Gotta do a few things in here, then we can head off whenever you're ready." it was the worst change in subject ever. But what else could he do. He didn't want Brandy to feel even worse for the Jack situation. It wasn't her fault and in a way it wasn't even Jack's either. But the reality of the situation was his girlfriend was bonded to a psychopath with no means of escape. It angered, frustrated and made him above all feel inadequate.

"You are a lifesaver. I thought I'd never get rid of that ole lush"
Body language. Brandy hated that she was so good at reading it. Sam had a glazed over look in his baby blue eyes, that look he always got before he rushed over to her and pressed his lips against her own. It made Brandy's cheeks flush ever-so-slightly, her heart race and other.. parts of her body tingle.
Though, there was nothing. In fact, it was if he had purposely forced himself to think about something else. Here they were, alone, with the whole bar to themselves for at least 30 minutes before they were going to go to the motel, and Sam...
"Gotta do a few things in here, then we can head off whenever you're ready."
... apparently had 'things to do'. Brandy forced her best smile and nodded, deciding to wipe down some of the tables to preoccupy herself. It was probably nothing anyway, he was probably just not in the mood.

The look of disapointment on Brandy's face gnawed away at his very core. She deserved better, needed more than what Sam could give her, at least in there current situation and it killed him. To look at her knowing that every touch, every kiss would go straight back to him[/i].
Once the bar was tidied up as much as could be. Sam turned to Brandy with a weak smile. "I think that's everything. You ready to go babe?"
It wasn't like Sam to rush away from Brandy, but being alone in such close quarters and with memories of there night in the bar. It was all too much for him. He had to get out into the cool air.

"I think that's everything. You ready to go babe?"
Brandy nodded, a bit.. confused that he was in such a hurry to get out of there. Oh well, she thought, and headed toward the door after him.
It seemed their next stop was going to be the hotel after this. Still, Brandy couldn't shake the feeling that something just wasn't right.
