This was place was much nicer than Kimberly had expected. All her life her mother had insisted that any daughter of hers would never step foot in a low-class boozer so she was pleasantly suprised by the decor and atmosphare of the place.
Having changed her jog, she was now sporting her casual skinny jeans and a green v-neck sweater. Another act of rebellion; her mother had always thought green was a terrible color on Kimberly and she was not allowed to wear it at home.
She found a nice booth and sat down, feeling her stomach grumble. Kimberly grabbled the menu and quickly chose the cheeseburger. While she waited to place her order, her eyes were drawn to a tall, dark haired man.

Alcide Herveaux enjoyed the times when he could entertain clientele. It meant he was doing his job at least somewhat well, and it often meant a growth in profit. Although he didn't ever look much like a business man, with his unkempt hair, grizzled face, and his unpretentious construction-man apparel, Alcide knew his way around the business world. He had been thrust into the surveying business at a decently young age, forced to take over when his father was acting like a child.
But that was beside the point, everytime he thought of his father, his face seemed synonymous with Eric Northman. And the itching big favor that Alcide would come to owe Eric.
Ridding any supe-business from his mind, Alcide was in the zone with his client, Mr. Jared Barter. If he fudged this one, he would potentially scrap a merger that would roll in over a million dollars of profit a year. He had to be on his best behavior.
Jared Barter himself, was much like Alcide, only thirty years older. And cut the werewolf from him. And the massive size and appeal. Otherwise, you had Mr. Barter. He enjoyed the fine things in life, but just looking at him, you wouldn't know the size of Barter's construction company, or the fact that he owned a multi-million dollar mansion in the outskirts of Shreveport, or the fact that he owned a McClaren F1, hiding in his garage, which he exchanged every workday for a muddy blue Chevy Silverado to drive to work.
No, there was no telling either one of the men was wealthy.
Jared had a taste for small dives off the side of the highway and meeting new, often dangerous people. Alcide could recall a time where Barter was mercilessly flirting with a century old blonde bombshell vampire at a gas station at night, and he had no idea. The man might've had enough smarts to make it in the business world, but when it came to messing with the wrong people, Jared might as well have just stuck his hand inside an alligator's mouth with a big smile on his face. Alcide made a note to himself to never let Jared Barter meet Debbie...
The older businessman was the first to enter the bar establishment. Though he was probably hardly over the average height of a woman, Jared acted like he was Alcide's height, or maybe even taller. He stalked in, pretending to own the joint, with a big, how-ya-doin smirk glimmering on his face.
Alcide though was careful to make a scene. He knew if he got in trouble, both his pack and Debbie would hear about it, and Alcide wondered who would make a bigger stink... Instead, he let his otherworldly senses take over, gently sniffing the air to note any supernaturals moving about. At the moment, he could smell two. One was a shifter and one was a...?
He'd check on that later.
The two were escorted two tables away from a pretty young blonde lady sitting by her lonesome. Alcide merely glanced, he knew better than to oggle a pretty girl. Even though he didn't have much of a father, he at least did teach him some southern manners. Jared though was brutally undressing the girl with his old man eyes without a care in the world.
As much as he could suck up to the client, he would, but he couldn't tolerate this behavior, "hey."
Alcide briefly touched Jared's wrist with the tips of his fingers. From a hulking, alpha-male built wolf, the touch was anything but human, making Mr. Barter snap his attention away from the pretty lady. He didn't need a word more.
"Maaaaan, whoooowee, that woh-man is uh teaser foh mah eyes," Jared remarked with a whistle and an equally obnoxious southern accent.
The woman trying to serve them, an older flaming red head, seemed jealous by his statement. She rose her eyebrows, "can I help you?"
Alcide shot the redhead a fading, nervous smile before ordering. He didn't need to look at a menu to see what he wanted. All these dives all had the same food.
"I'll have a Coca Cola and a hamburger with fries, if you don't mind," Alcide was never the type to drink, but he was certainly expecting the drink orders to come piling in from Jared.
The red head was like a slightly dried up, old oatmeal cookie that you would get at Subway to Mr. Barter, where the blonde girl was just like a fresh, home-made, right-from-the-oven chocolate chip cookie. He glanced at the waitress but paid more attention to the blonde. The redhead had to clear her throat to get his attention for his order.
"Bay-bee, Ah will have uh double od-or of chickun strips and a tall glass of tha behst you got on tap."
The redhead was about to disappear to go deliver their order to the chef, but Jared's hand reached forward to get her attention via touching her butt. Alcide, with his werewolf sense, saw this before it happened and pushed his hand away. That was another notch towards no meeting of Jared and Debbie. If he would've tried something with her, he'd probably kill him.
"Ma'am..." Alcide called to the waitress, "I think my friend has another order."
"Yes?"
"And Ah'd lahk to pay foh that pretty little cucumba's meal ovah there. Ah'd also lahk to git her uh drink, so please ask her what she whants and tell her it's from lil ol' me," Jared spoke to the waitress he was about to touch inappropriately.
Alcide caught the waitress rolling her eyes in her jealousy. The two spoke about regular things while they waited for both their orders and the reaction the blonde would have to Jared's gesture.

Kimberly's hamburger had been brought to the table by a redhaired woman with a friendly southern twang. She was most likely in her fourties but she had a sparkle about her that made her seem younger.
As she was munching on her meal, she noticed a man starting at her. Quite obviously so. She blushed and concentrated on her burger. She wasn't used to men actively ogling at her. Kimberly had been a bit of an ugly duckling when she had been younger. Her two brothers Kenneth and James had always been tall and attractive while she had only blossomed into herself during nursing school.
Out of the two men, Kimberly's gaze was immediatly drawn to the other one. The one that wasn't slobbering over her. He had something magical about him; something extremely interesting.
Kimberly was brought out of her thoughts when the pretty waitress returned with a drink in hand.
"I'm sorry mam but I didn't order a drink." She said, confused as she rarely ever drank and definately didn't order one tonight.
"That man over there took a liking to you so drink up. He also paid for you order," the waitress said rather jadedly and pointed to the direction of the table I had been sneaking glances at for the last ten minutes.
Kimberly blushed deeply when she and the man locked eyes. I can't be rude, mama would kill me. I have to go and say thank you.
Kimberly stood up from the table, with her drink in hand and walked over to the table where the men were sitting.
"Thank you for the drink and the meal." Kimberly said nervously, completely forgetting the line she had come up with on her way there. They must think I'm a complete idiot, Kimberly thought to herself, mortified.

The two received their meals. Alcide wanted to chat about business while they were eating, but Jared was still all over the blondie young enough to be his daughter. For a second, Alcide asked himself just how horrible Jared would be at a strip club...
Finally, the order arrived at the dame's table and Alcide and Jared both watched to see her reaction. It seemed favorable, amazingly. Alcide would've been caught off guard if a sixty-year-old woman had been hitting on him by showering him with gifts. Then again, just as the female, he would've acted as kind as possible. No matter what the gift, and from who, you had to be sweet. It seems that she had better manners than what someone would expect of a patron eating at a bar.
Maybe she wanted to take advantage of it a little more? Maybe she was a gold digger, sizing up the mine?
Alcide quickly brushed these thoughts away as the female scooted from her seat with her drink in hand, maneuvering towards their table. He had tried to busy himself with eating, but it was no use. The moment he smelled her, his penetrating eyes searched for eye contact within the woman. This was the other person who had a different nature. But not of an animal. Not of a werewolf. What was it than?
"Hey there, sweet thing, what's yoh nay-m?" Mr. Barter questioned her, with lust brimming from his narrow eyes.
Great. So this chick was a supe. And again, Jared was flirting with her. He sure had a horrible taste in women for a human bachelor.
The younger Herveaux leaned forward, resting his arms on his knees, casually taking sips of his Coke as he waited for her name. He continued to size her up with much interest, though his interest was not about lust, but more about being curious.

"Hey there, sweet thing, what's yoh nay-m?"
"Kimberly. Well, I just wanted to say thanks and now that I have said thanks, I should go back to my table. So thanks," Kimberly mumbled awkwardly. She was no good in situations like this.
While the older man kept leering at her, it was the other man who attracted Kimberly's gaze. He was tall, at least from what she could see while he was sitting and his eyes were peculiarly studying her, somehing she couldn't understand. He was different, her witch senses told her.
"Right, I was going to go, wasn't I," Kimberly said with a deep blush creeping to her cheeks as her gaze was met by the man. Dammit, he must have caught me looking at him, Kimberly groaned inwardly.
For some reason, walking away from the two men was a lot harder than it should have been. Something about the other man was drawing her in, instead of letting her walk away.

Apparently, Jared loved a woman who couldn't communicate properly around two men, because Alcide could sense he was even more interested in the woman. Perhaps he thought she could be bedded and wedded easy, because maybe he assumed she wasn't used to male contact. Who knew what went through a pervert's mind? Alcide was most definitely not a pervert, and he also understood when a couple of men overstepped their boundaries.
This seemed like one of those times.
Alcide tried to hide a small smile from his face. Though the girl couldn't talk her way out of an awkward situation, she was darn cute trying to do it. It was very charming. At least Alcide knew he wasn't dealing with a dangerous supe. Of course, she could be some sort of otherworldly succubus, pretending to be innocent to gain his affection. But what was the likelihood of that?
"Right, I was going to go, wasn't I,"
"Oh nah darlin', don't be leavin'," Jared reached out his hand and gently touched her wrist.
The words "overstepping your boundaries" appeared in Alcide's head again. At least he didn't reach for her ass this time.
"Sugah, we wahnt yoh to stay heah with us now...," Jared raised his eyebrows at Alcide, "don't we?"
Alcide thought it over. If he agreed to it, which he wanted to, than that would mean the poor lady would have to sit through who knows how many more obvious advances? If he said no, well, that would mean she would think Alcide wasn't at least semi interested in her. And he was definitely more than semi interested. In fact... he--
"Well, you certainly can't make up yoh mind, Mis-tar Herveaux," Alcide was glad that Jared could say one thing right, and that was his last name, "I think bah the look in his eyes he wahnts you to stay too now, missy."
Great. So that was that. Even the foolish human could spot the fact that Alcide's eye contact with her meant he was more than interested. And here, he thought he had disguised it pretty well. He'd have to work at that. He wasn't going to flirt with her, because that would possibly mess with his business deal. And at the end of the day, that was what it was all about: getting the deal.
Alcide had an idea all of a sudden. An idea about getting that deal that involved the supe named Kimberly. He mulled it over in his brain a couple hundred times, wondering if he should ask to talk to her about it, or if it would be too rude to ask a stranger to jump into his own affairs.
Alcide... remember the deal, yes, you are a gentleman, but you also have to have the best interests for your employees in mind. Throw away your values just this second, now.
Yes, he'd ask her. But first, he had to see if she was going to sit with them or not.

Kimberly was feeling even more awkward as she felt the men looking her, appraising her with their gaze. The older one's thoughts were easier to figure out, he wanted her out of her clothes and in his bed. The other one thought, was harder to decipher. If she had ever wanted to be able to read minds, this was the moment.
As she was leaving, she felt a strong hand on gently caressing her wrist. It was the older man, grabbing a hold of her as a way to stop her from leaving. She panicked at first but something in the way the younger man was looking at her, she felt safe.
"Oh nah darlin', don't be leavin'...Sugah, we wahnt yoh to stay heah with us now...,"don't we?" the older man said, with his eyes set on the younger man sitting at the table.
"Oh, I wouldn't want to impose. I'm not very good at shutting up, I have been known to ramble for way too long and I wouldn't want to bore you," Kimberly said with a small smile. She actually wouldn't have minded sitting with them but only if the other man, the one she found endlessly fascinating and attractive, would want her to stay.
"Well, you certainly can't make up yoh mind, Mis-tar Herveaux...I think bah the look in his eyes he wahnts you to stay too now, missy."
"Herveux, that's an interesting name. Where are you from? I'm from Atlanta myself, just landed in little old Bon Temps to...."Kimberly said blushing at the comment before starting another ramble. When she realized what she was doing, she clamped down. "You probably not interested in hearing my whole life story in the first five minutes so I'll just shut up."
Kimberly was inwardly kicking herself at her stupidity. Why oh why she had to act like a elementary school kid in the presence of this sexy man. He must think she was some sort of weirdo.
She glanced back at her table and the idea of returning to it didn't feel very enticing. Right, she was new in this town and it wouldn't hurt to get to know people, so she might as well start now.
"If you don't mind the nervous rambling, I'd love to sit down with you guys. I just get nervous around new people," she said after a brief pause and tucked another strand of golden blonde hair behind her ear.

"Herveux, that's an interesting name. Where are you from? I'm from Atlanta myself, just landed in little old Bon Temps to...."
As she was talking, Alcide was listening. Jared was probably listening with what lie between his legs. Alcide was about to answer her, but Barter picked up first.
"Ah, sweet pea, Ah am frahm Shreveport. Ah got a noss lil ol' mansion down yonder," Jared lifted his eyebrows up and down, over and over, trying to see if she'd pick up the gold digger bait. Alcide was disgusted.
"Yeah, he's just traveling back there, aren't you, Jared?" Herveaux sent him a disturbed glance before continuing, "my name is Alcide. It is a pleasure meeting you. We don't mind anything you might call rambling. We're all ears. Before you do sit down... can I get you something you might actually like at the bar."
This probably hurt Jared a little, but nothing his elephant sized pride couldn't take. Alcide moved an eyebrow up and shifted his hands toward the bar area, hoping she'd get the picture. Anything to get away from Mr. Barter for the moment.
Just as he asked her to accompany him to the bar area, their redheaded waitress returned and asked if the new party of three needed anything.
"Actually, I was just about to head up to the bar with Kimberly to look at your extended drink menu," Alcide genuinely smiled at the redhead. The redhead scoffed and quickly returned to whatever else she was doing.
The huge brick got up from his chair by Jared and started to walk towards the bar area, in hopes that Kimberly would follow his massive form there.

"Ah, sweet pea, Ah am frahm Shreveport. Ah got a noss lil ol' mansion down yonder," ,"
"Wow. I grew up in a plantation. My mama has Gone with the Wind fetish and made big dadddy build her a home that was as grand as the Tara plantation in the movie." Kimberly giggled at the memory of their 4th of July theme picnics where mama always dressed up as Scarlet and made big daddy be Rhett Butler.
Kimberly sensed the man had only told her this piece of imformation to see if she would be a gold digger. She had grown up around people like this, people who thought mansions and money impressed people.
If she wanted to marry money, she could have just let mama pair her off to one of the sons of her society circle but alas, she wanted a life outside of the money crowd.
"my name is Alcide. It is a pleasure meeting you. We don't mind anything you might call rambling. We're all ears. Before you do sit down... can I get you something you might actually like at the bar."
"Nice to meet you Alcide. Oh, I would actually love a glass of rosé wine, never been a big drinker but I do love rosé." Kimberly smiled as she noticed the tone of his voice. Alcide clearly wanted her to agree which she did.
As they were to make their way to the bar, the same redheaded woman arrived at the table and with her harsh southern twang asked if we would need more refreshments. She watched Alcide politely decline and make his way to the bar. He was big, a lot taller than she had originally pegged him as and she was even more interested. After a minute or so of just gazing his retreating form, Kimberly followed him to the bar.

Jared had shown dismay when the lass told her mansion story. What a bummer for him. He was hoping to snag a trophy wife, but in return got nothing but a cute story and an official decline towards his affections. It sure worked with the babes at the strip clubs.
Alcide, in the meantime, was completely moonstruck by Kimberly, especially when she shared her story. He was glad that the lady had grown up in the south, it made conversation a whole lot easier. Usually any beautiful woman, Alcide liked at least a little bit, but he definitely had a harder time relating to women from the north. They didn't understand the slow, easy going pace of the south, in his mind.
"Nice to meet you Alcide. Oh, I would actually love a glass of rosé wine, never been a big drinker but I do love rosé."
"Rose wine it is than."
The southern gentleman found his way to the bar area and leaned against the smooth wood. He didn't bother sitting down, because he wanted to tell her something quickly. Cautiously, he peered over his shoulder once Kimberly arrived, making sure that Jared Barter hadn't followed.
"Listen..." Alcide heavily sighed, "I'm not usually one to just say something like this. I have my manners. But--"
He was interrupted by the blond shapeshifter whom asked him what he wanted to drink and he mumbled "rose wine" and continued.
"I need to pretend to play wingman for my business luncheon man there, Jared. If he thinks that I am helping his case with you, well, that adds brownie points to my name," Alcide explained, not making eye contact because he felt so guilty.
"I like the way you were acting around him. You were nice... could you continue and pretend to have more interest in him? Because you and I both know that I like you more than he will ever like you. I understand if that's rude... I do, but I really need this for my company."
He closed his eyes and licked his lips, before reopening them and slightly glancing toward the beautiful supe. Alcide hoped he didn't just dash his lucky streak with her, or it might not have been worth it in the end.

"Are you sure you want me to lie to someone? I have to warm you, I'm a horrible liar. I giggle when I'm trying to lie. I don't want ruin any of your business opportunities by saying the wrong thing or doing something stupid. I'm a master of humiliating myself. Still want me to do this?" Kimberly asked with a coy smile. She certainly enjoyed spending time with this man, he was so unlike anyone she had ever met. He had yet once be irritated by her rambling and hadn't even told her to shut up yet, which must have been a record.
"I mean, you seem like a nice guy and if you sure about wantin' me, I'm game. So what do you exactly want me to do? Act like he's the most interesting man on the planet and the most wonderful too? Like I don't have a brain in my head? Because I can do that, I have years worth of experience trying to fend off the boys mama set me up with," she smiled, feeling a little more confident in herself and her ability to help.
As the man behind the bar poured her wine, Kimberly tried make some sense of this man next to her. He was obviously a man who worked with his hands, as they were rough and looked as if they had seen labour but there was this elegance about him, like he was a born aristocrat. It was an image that didn't seem to mix very well.
"You sure you ain't getting a drink?" She asked her as the blonde man placed the wine glass in front of her.

Kimberly professed she was a horrible liar. That was okay. Jared Barter was an amazing business man but ridiculously stupid when it came to real life and dealing with things outside of work. A drag queen could be telling him that yes, "he" was indeed a woman and Jared would believe it without a second thought.
"It'll be fine. He believes anything, especially from a pretty lady," Alcide accidentally flirted once again. His mojo was sitting on one side of his shoulder telling him 'go for it' while a little Debbie Pelt, dressed in a red devil suit, was sitting on the other yapping in his ear about how bad he was.
Cheating was only love making, kissing, and other bodily contact, right? Besides, if Debbie couldn't make up her mind if they were still an item or not, why should he pretend to be in a relationship?
Rubbing away the Debbie devil, he listened to her with extra perky ears.
"I mean, you seem like a nice guy and if you sure about wantin' me, I'm game. So what do you exactly want me to do? Act like he's the most interesting man on the planet and the most wonderful too? Like I don't have a brain in my head? Because I can do that, I have years worth of experience trying to fend off the boys mama set me up with,"
"Yeah, just pretend you do think he is amazing. I'll play up the good things about him, and you pretend even more to think he's absolutely awesome after what I tell you about him..." Alcide grinned. He knew this woman could handle it.
Her wine came to her. Alcide could smell that she wasn't overly excited about it, which meant she wasn't an alcoholic. Thank God. He couldn't deal with two people that liked the bottle. She proceeded to ask him if he was going to get a drink.
"Fffff..." Alcide nervously blew out from his lips, "I'm not much of a drinker, but if it'd make you feel better, I will have something."
He knocked on the bar to get the reddish blond shifter's attention.
"Can I get a Rum and Coke?" He reached into his wallet and opened his money section. There were at least five visible twenty dollar bills inside, he pulled one out and left it at the bar, waiting for his drink to arrive.
Once he handed him the drink, he nodded to the bartender "thank you kindly."
He turned back to Kimberly, "So are you ready?"
Jared was sitting anxiously at the table, still eyeing Kimberly with his tiger eyes.

"It'll be fine. He believes anything, especially from a pretty lady,"
"My thank you. So you think I'm pretty then?" She asked before the rational part of her brain managed to register what she was actually about to say. At least mama would be proud, she had been conviced Kimberly was unable to graciously flirt with anyone. 'Was that something I was doing, flirting', she questioned inwardly as the words had come out of her mind.
"I don't think I have a problem with pretending someone is amazing. That's what I did every Sunday since I was 13 when mama had her society luncheons. So many phonies with egos the size of Georgia," Kimberly said relaxing a little. She was no longer as nervous around Alcide, as she felt at ease with him.
"I'm not much of a drinker, but if it'd make you feel better, I will have something."
"Thank you, I hate drinking by myself, it makes me feel like a lush," she smiled gratefully as he ordered himself a rum and coke.
"So are you ready?"
"Well I'm certainly not getting anymore ready standing here. Let's get ready to rumble," she laughed and when he looked at her curiously, she continued, "I'm a wrestling fan."

After Alcide had mentioned she was pretty, it seemed Kimberly tried to say something, there was definitely a certain something lurking in the back of her eyes. Whatever it was, Alcide was kind enough not to ask. If she didn't say it, it was none of his concern.
She talked about how she was used to faking it for a select social group. It made him a little bit uneasy for a second... Alcide hoped she wasn't feigning anything when it came to him. Bah. He could sniff out a bad liar. And this young lady wasn't one, though she was something else. Did she sense his nature too? He didn't know. How could he know when he didn't even know what she was in the first place.
If she did spot his nature, or at least suspected it, he sure wished that she would just spill the beans about it, so that Alcide, in turn, could ask about hers. But he knew it wasn't going to be that easy.
She mentioned she hated drinking alone. Alcide thought how no one could ever think she was an alcoholic with a face and a demeanor like she possessed, there was just no way. She was too pretty. She couldn't be a lush. But he didn't want to flatter her or put on too much flirting and self assurance. Because at the end of the day, there was still Debbie.
"Well I'm certainly not getting anymore ready standing here. Let's get ready to rumble," she laughed and when he looked at her curiously, she continued, "I'm a wrestling fan."
"Oh really?" Alcide said, surprised.
He never would have guessed she was a wrestling fan. But he'd seen a lot in his thirty years. People seemed to surprise him everyday. Alcide didn't have much time to watch "wrasslin'" on TV. He was busy just about everyday. When he did have a Monday night to himself, he enjoyed just relaxing... without the whir of the boob tube.
Alcide motioned for her to follow him, drink in hand. He nonchalantly made his way back to their table and casually sat down, as if nothing had happened. His posture was more relaxed than it was before. He sprawled his long legs out in front of him, and set his drink on the table. With this gesture, the Herveaux businessman hoped to dictate to Jared Barter that he was ready to play wingman.
"Alcide, where have y'all been? The room got a li'l colder when the loveleh Kimberly went away now," Jared winked at Kimberly, nursing another drink their waitress brought to them.
The wingman waited for Kimberly to be seated with her drink before starting the barrage of sucking up to Mr. Barter.

"Oh really?" He asked when Kimberly mentioned being a wrestling fan. She was amused by this, wrestling had been a long time passion of hers.
"Oh yes. Big Daddy used to take me and my brothers Kenneth and James out to see the old WCW Nitro when it was in Atlanta. My mama hated it and I think she loathed that idea that I enjoyed watching a manly thing like wrassling instead of joining her at the Daughters of the South meetings. I was a tomboy as a kid, loved all the sports and never wore a dress unless she forced me to," Kimberly laughed and took a sip out of her rosé wine. Truthfully, the hours spent at the Georgia Dome with her father and brothers had been one of the happiest in her childhood. Away from her mother's influence, she had been able to be just herself. No facade, no lying, no prending.
"I'm sorry I don't mean to go on about my mama and my childhood. It's probably not very interesting and comes off as whining. Another poor lil' rich girl unhappy about her life. I'm really not, I love my life and wouldn't chance a thing," Kimberly said with a coy smile. She did indeed love the life she had now, a steady job, a new appartment and new friends, or at least she hoped she had made a friend in Alcide.
As he motioned her to follow him to the table where the older man sat, she plastered a wide smile on her lips and changed her walk to a more seductive walk, the kind which she had been thought at Ms. McGuiver's finishing school.
"Alcide, where have y'all been? The room got a li'l colder when the loveleh Kimberly went away now,"
"Oh my world, thank you. That's one of the sweetest things a man has ever said to me." She said sitting down next to the man and brushing her legs innocently against Jared Barter's.
"So what do you do for a living Mr. Barter. I imagine it's something terribly interesting," Kimberly said, her voice sugary sweet. All this was bringing back a lot memories and suprisingly, acting like a well bred southern lady in the company of a gentleman caller was as easy as she had remembered.
