Alice had been walking along this road for about an hour, the dust unsettled by her footfalls. She'd hitched at ride from some no-brained, inbred pickup driver a while back. He smiled and told her he'd drive her to the next town, which happened to by Bon Temps. 'Nothing so pretty should have to walk all that way...' *gag*
This town was like all the other southern backwater towns she'd passed through. Baseball caps, plaid shirts, toothy grins and not to forget that accent. Straight of the plantation. Not that she was pregnant dogy. It was just they all seemed so d**n close in these little towns, all grew up togther. Went to same school, each others graduations, weddings, funerals. It gave her that littl green monster on her shoulder.
Sighing she continued to walk lazily along the path, listening to the sound of her tracks. Her old nikes were past worn, the soles thin and lases frayed. She didnt want to buy a new pair just yet, new shoes cost money and old shoe carried other peoples germs like varrucas and fungus. She couldnt just stop by a doctor and get fixed. The money i have is expendable, if i wanna eat sometime and get a train to shreveport. I heard there was one this town or next one over. The dark sky was moving form evening into night, the small watch on her arm indicating it was almost half seven. Sighing she continued to walk along the disty road thinking over her next moves. Move through Bon Temps and whatevers next till Streveport and then god knows what after if she didnt find what she was looking for. What was she looking for...?
Her keen eyes picked out the distant light of merlotte's bringing a small smile to her face, her nose could pick up the faint scent of beer and fries. Food... her empty stomach gave a strangled gurggle, as her mond counted back to her last meal. Half a sandwich... two days ago. I should have passed out by now! Silently she decided that it was best for her stomach, moral and perhaps the next person she came across if she were to eat now. The bar obviosuly sold food by the scent infiltrating her nose, and her nose was good.
Picking up the pace she gained toward the building, the windows lit up and large neon sign above the door indication it 'Merlotte's Bar'. Pulling her knapsack tighter on her shoulder she jogged through the parking lot towards the door, into Merlotte's. Looking around, it didnt seem half bad. It was clean and not too packed, not taht she cared much about tidiness. SHrugging her bad down into her hand she approached the bar to order a glass of water and ask if they where still serving. Some placing stopped cooking at like six... you can get hungry antime people...
