I arrived in Shreveport mid-afternoon, my stop-over in the small neighbouring town of Bon Temps was overall uneventful which was good for the weary traveller. I rode all over the city trying to find a decent and affordable place to stay. I had no idea how long I was planning on sticking around, but Shreveport was certainly more visibly lively than the last few places I'd passed through. I was almost on the verge of giving up and just continuing on through to the next city when I noticed a sign pointing to a nearby Travelodge. I manouvered my bike towards the sign and followed all the directions till I found my destination.
It was a huge improvement from the dodgy little place in Bon Temps. There was even an outdoor pool, which made me a little giddy. I parked my bike and made my way into the foyer and towards the reception. A small middle aged woman with greying brown hair smiled broadly at me.
"Good afternoon Miss. How can ah help you?" her thick Louisiana accent dripping all over her words.
"I'd like a room please, if you have any available." I replied, trying to return the smile but I was just too worn out.
"Absolutely, Miss?" she stopped, waiting for me to finish off my name.
"Morgan, Summer Morgan." I watched her as she tapped away on her keyboard, checking for availability.
"We have a room 429 that may be to your liking or if you prefer a bigger room I can check up on that."
I waved my hand up, "No, a single room is plenty. There's just me and what I have on me" I tilted my head towards the rucksack on my back and the one in my hand.
A look of pity later and she handed me my room key. "Will you be staying here long Miss Morgan?" That was a good question I thought. How long was I staying here? I honestly didn't know, I never really thought that far ahead. "A little while, see how things work out." Another look of pity just made me walk away and I trundled off towards my new, albeit temporary, home.
I swiped my key downwards and the lock unclicked. I opened the door and much to my surprise it was actually very pleasant. Not huge, but it was enough to accomodate me and all two rucksacks of my worldly possessions. I took a stroll through the room, liking it very much. The window had a nice view onto the pool area, it was surprisingly empty. I contemplated unpacking but I just didn't feel like it so instead turned on the lush television set. After 15 minutes of aimlessly flicking through every channel available I was growing bored and a bored Summer, is not a good Summer.
"Time to hit the city and check this place out a bit better." So I put my jacket back on and grabbed my helmet and made my way back out into the parking lot. It was time to explore and also to look for a d*mn job. Room 429 wasn't going to pay for itself.
