It was a beautiful morning outside. The sun was beating down and it was a good day for hard work. He had just finished working on the road for the day and it was close to dinner time. Jason was starved and he hoped that Sookie would be around to fix him some dinner or at least have something in the fridge to make a sandwich. He loved his sister and she was the only family he had after his gran and mom and pop died. He worried about her all the time and it would make him less of a man to let her know. So Jason went around and put on a show, the show of someone who is at times an inconsiderate jerk. He pulled his black blue and pink flamed truck into the drive and slid around back. The front was reserved for visitors and Sookie would have pregnant doged the rest of the night if he parked there. The old farm house was in as pristine condition as it could be and just setting foot on the porch made him feel more at home and safe. He knocked on the door and waited for his sister to answer. Hopefully she wouldn't be busy with her boyfriend Bill Compton. Jason shuddered. He wasn't ready to think about Sookie having sex, let alone having sex with a vampire. He hollered through the door. "Hey Sook! It is your long lost brother here to spend some time with ya. Open the door girl!" His stomach growled. He sure hoped she would let him in soon.

It was her only day off this week and a much needed one at that. Merlottes was having lots of business this week, it seemed an influx of new visitors and new comers were making their way into Bon Temps. Which for her was good on one hand, the tips and bad on the other, more people to make trouble. It was her goal to avoid trouble at all costs this year, though it seemed to follow her non stop. Sookie was in the living room, sweeping, trying to make sure everything was neat and tidy. Considering she had been neglecting her household chores this past week on account of being so busy. She was the kind of girl who, instilled by her grams, believed in keeping a nice home. Especially her home, her grandmothers home.
Getting caught up in her sweeping she nearly fell over at the sound of a voice. But luckily it wasnt trouble, or was it? Jason, her big brother, who was there for her but at the same time did his own things, decided today would be a sibling day. On her one day off. Of course he would want something, food or household items, as he never stopped for just a visit. "Why if it aint Jason Stackhouse!" She said as she made her way to the door and opened it. "Aint seen you here in awhile Jason." She did not hold the door open, as it was her brother, he knew his way in. "What's up? What kinda trouble are you into now?" She asked half joking and half serious.

Jason studied her closely and when he was satisfied that she was tired from cleaning he stepped in and wrapped her in a big hug. He had never been much of a hugger or much of a family guy. Ever since his constant brush with death (his own, his girlfriend, his grandmother, his sister's) Jason was trying to find his own place in the little community that he had always called home. Unfortunately he had the wool pulled over his eyes recently by the FOTS and he had judged his sister for something that was pure and not in any way evil. Jason rubbed the back of his neck with embarrassment.
"Hey Sook, bet ya thought it be 'while for I came around huh." He went straight for the fridge to get a beer. Fortunately he had left a couple in here and wouldn't have to drink any of Sookie's soda...or True Blood? "No trouble, why I always gotta be in trouble to wanna see you?" He looked back at her and remembered how she had felt in the hug and he saw the color in her cheeks...Jason grinned at her as he closed the fridge and sat down at the table. "Man sis, I don't know what I was thinkin'. Maybe too much sun for me today...anyway I just thought I would stop by and see how you're hangin in there. This your day off?" If it was he wouldn't stay long, he knew she liked her alone time, what with her special powers and all. "I thought it would be nice to maybe order a pizza for ya and watch a movie but you know if you got other plans with Bill or you gotta work I will just grab another beer and head on my way." Jason looked down at his beer. Maybe he should just leave, Sookie never liked his company much anyway.

Sookie felt just a little taken aback by her brothers presence. He was always there whenever he needed something. Never just a social call. But was he having a change of heart? "Jason, you know you are always here whenever you need something!" She put emphasis on the word need because she did not want to say trouble again as it seemed to upset him. She could have got into his mind, but learned at any early age that his mind was not the place she would ever want to wonder. Even for useful information. She watched him grab a beer and pondered the thought herself but decided not to, since she was just not in the mood.
Jason seemed to be making himself at home. It was sort of his home, not in the always living there sense, but the childhood memories sense. "Yeah, its my day off. I was just doing some cleaning. You know Grams always liked to keep a tidy house." She looked around the kitchen and tried as hard as she could to push the thought of her grandmothers death out of her head. It was terrible and senseless. No, no thinking about it. "Bill is busy tonight I think. He has this new" she paused a bit "thing to take care of!" By thing she meant Jessica, whom Sookie had no problem with only that she consumed the time of her boyfriend all to often. "I think a pizza might be nice." She said outloud but half to herself as she went over to the counter to grab the number book. "So, Jason, who is the new catch of the week?" She asked looking over her shoulder then back at the numbers. Jason always had girls, flavors of the week.

Jason felt elated for some reason and gave his sister a big smile. "Well I am sure sorry that his new thing...is taking up some time but at the same time I am glad you have some time for yourself!" Jason grabbed the phone and dialed the number. He was a bachelor; he knew the number by heart.
After he paid for the pizza with his card, he sat the phone on the table. "Sis, there is somethin' I gotta say and I really hate that I have to say it...I am sorry and I want you to know that I will be there for you no matter what happens from now on." Jason picked up his beer and drained the rest. "I think we should watch some videos, what do you think?"

Sookie was just plum shocked. Like the kind of shock that makes someone drop their glass and have flies go in their mouth. Jason Stackhouse being nice. Was the world ending? Did he kill someone? She watched him just dial away that phone number, he must have known it by heart cause he sure did not look at anything and even pay. "Wow Jason, thanks. Dinner on you? And here I thought you were here to have me make something to eat!" She laughed an awakward yet real laugh. Her brother was being a real brother. For once.
She took a seat at the kitchen table, as they were just talking. Jason seemed to have something to say and she knew it was going to come out. "Huh! Well, err, umm, thanks again Jason. You gonna be here for me now? Why the change of heart? Guilt?" She heard his movie comment but rather wanted to know what was so special about today to have him want to be so brotherly.

Jason grabbed the back of his neck, embarrassment rising in his face. "Sook, lets be honest here. I know I am an ass, I will probably be an ass again tomorrow. I like beer, working and gettin tail...I am way too self absorbed for my own good....I was a real sh*t to you most of our lives and so many things have happen since Gran died, that I just wanted you to know, no matter what I am doing, even when I am being an ass, I will make the time for you."
If the only good thing that happened from his brief relationship with the FOTS was that he was nicer to Sookie he would be satisfied. "Now that I have humiliated myself to pieces, let's talk about something else..." Because all he wanted to do right now was hide away in a hole.

Sookie was just plum astonished. They had not had much time to talk since the little FotS escapade he encountered, which might have been good. She placed her hands under her chin and starred at him for a few seconds, then spoke "Well Jason. I am going to make sure you keep that promise. Big brother!" She said with a smile, feeling his embarrassment and knowing he wanted to move to something else. It was a huge step for him and one that needed to happen. They were all each other really had family wise, so they needed to be together.
With a new jump in her step, Sookie stood up and looked outside the door. "The pizza will be here soon, I think. I mean, you would know the exact time wouldn't you Mr," Sookie made her voice sound as manly as she could "I have the pizza parlor number memorized. Let me show you these flowers outside that Grams planted last year. She figured they would die, but they didn't!" She tried her best to sound as normal as possible considering she just wanted to stand up and hug her big brother. But they were not like that too much.

Jason started to laugh. It was slow at first but then it began to take over his whole body. As Jason wiped his eyes he smiled broadly at his sister. "Yeah sis, I would love to look at your flowers. I can't believe I just asked you to look at flowers..." Jason trailed off and shook his head.
"I knew I should have gone to Hoyt's!" he joked. "I would be tellin him about this hot new girl I met and there would definitely be no flowers involved!" Jason set his work belt on the table. He looked up and winked at Sookie. "Now I just have to feel a little less manly while I tell you about her!"

Sookie laughed along with Jason. Maybe he was growing up or maybe he had just had one of those life change experiences. Whatever it was, she was not going to hate. She liked having her brother around, well at least for now. "They are grams flowers though!" She said as she walked out the door, taking a smell of the fresh air. Jason was talking something about girls, as usual. He always had a girl at some time, making a scene with them at Merlotte's but that was him. Just a sex master.
"Hoyt would just sit there and listen and wish it was him, as always!" She said, remembering hearing his thoughts at one time. "Tell me. I can be like a guy. We can pretend." She made her voice sound a little lower. "So, who was this hottie? Where'd ya meet her?" A hint of giggle was in her voice as she walked down the steps to the flowers. Man talk and flowers, could this day get any weirder?

"Sookie, how come I never remember you bein this fun when we were kids? Oooh this is probably the part where you call me a jerk with a swelled head, but you don't smack the back of my head, you try to punch me in the doodles!" Jason took a jump back away from his sister just in case."Now I guess we should start to braid each other's hair right?" Jason sat and placed his hands under his chin and batted his eyes at Sookie. "Well sis, there is this girl, her name is Sasha and man she is sooo purty! We went runnin together the other night and she took my breath away. I wonder if she likes me...she might be the one."

Sookie looked at Jason and laughed. Whatever this new leaf was, she loved it. "I aint gonna hit cha. And I was fun when we were kids, you were just too busy being a jerk!" She smiled and contemplated taking a listen in his mind, but thought not as it would make the fun Jason go away. When he sat beside her and began his retelling of this new girl, she wanted to just laugh but decided to act as if it were something new. "Sasha? Humm, I don't think Ive met her. You went runnin?" A bit of a laugh came to her mouth but she held back. "That aint no kinda date. If you think she is the one, why the hell are you running?"

Jason kicked his legs out and leaned back on his elbows. He looked up at Sookie and smiled. "Naw, she ain't the one, she stood me up the other night on our official first date. You know I got my pride sis."
Jason looked out at his grandmothers flowers and closed his eyes. He could almost hear her coming out to the porch, just like she always did to water her precious plants. He never realized how much he missed his grandmother until moments like this came up and slapped him in the face.
He opened his eyes and put his smile back on. "Man, she was a looker, had legs up to here" motioning past his waist up to the middle of his chest. "Wearing almost next to nothing running out on Renard Parish road. Sasha is from New York City and loves vampires just like you...not that its bad or nothin' she just didn't seem to interested in us warm blooded types."
Jason thought for a minute. "Hey sis, you still talk to that one vamp who works at that Fangtasia place? I just want to make sure this girl ain't trying to feed me to some of her "friends" if you know what I mean." He looked up at Sookie hopefully.

Sitting on the porch listing to her brother talk about his love live, this was a moment to remember. He really did seem to be thinking about her hard, but Jason always dove in head first in the shallow section when it came to women. He fell hard. "I don't like vampires Jason, I like a vampire!" She stated matter o factly. But this was not all that true because she had made some vampire friends. With the recent influx of vampire into Bon Temps, she did meet some she did rather like.
"A New York gal huh. I sure to wonder what the vampires are like up there!" She thought for a second. "I think I have heard of this Sasha gal, aint she a fangbanger?" Sookie tried to think about this thought she heard, about some nice looking girl fangbanger. "Yeah, I still know the vamps at Fangtasia. I could do some recon for you. I think Pam is going to have some event thing there that I have to go see. Maybe you can tag along?"

"Really? What sorta thing? I ain't never been there and the owners know me...you think we'd get the V.I.P treatment?"
Jason smiled at his sister and was glad to hear that she would help him out with Sasha. He liked no strings attached for the main reason of not ever worrying about anything coming back to bite him in the ass.
"Sookie, you really think Bill is the one for you?" He meant nothing by it and the feeling of love sorta hit him out of nowhere. "I mean do you think you really love him? I ain't never really felt anything I could call love and sometimes I wonder if it is worth it..." Sookie probably never heard him talk so much in their entire time together as brother and sister.
