Name: Maryam
Age: 5,000+, looks to be in her thirties.
Member Group: Vampire
Character History: Maryam was born over 5,000 years ago in ancient Mesopotamia in the Sumerian empire to a scribe and his wife, a midwife. She was born with a different name, but it has been long forgotten, she adopted the name Maryam 3,000 years ago. They held good social status as he was a scribe, the modern day equivalent of upper middle class. The first of 6 children, 1 died in infancy from unknown causes, they commonly attributed infant death to Lilith. Maryam grew up like any other child back then born to a wealthy family. She learned to write and read since her father was a scribe. She was taught textile weaving, ink producing and pottery. Even though women weren't traditionally scribes, she was taught all this in preparation to become a Priestess, a well educated group of women who were held in high respects.
On her 15th birthday, she was inducted into the church and donned her robes and began learning rituals, ceremonies and learned the ways of Sumerian polytheistic religion. The temple-town was based around Ishtar, and she became a servant to her. At the age of 31, putting out candles at dusk a creeping figure entered the temple. It was a Lillen named Ekur. He had been watching Maryam for quite some time and admired her dedication to the goddess, her kindness and charitableness. He chose her to be his offspring, to give her the most powerful blood one could offer to a human. That night, he attacked Maryam, feeding off her and then turned her. He taught her everything about their kind, about how they perished in the sunlight and how silver was deadly to them. They traveled through the ancient world, bringing destructing wherever they went.
During their time together traveling the world, Maryam's addiction was at the highest peak it has been in ever. It has affected her relationship with Vampires wherever she has been, and it might have been one of the reasons of what happened between her and her maker, Ekur. Often times they conflicted about things such as feeding, and how Maryam preferred to feed on Vampires because of the addiction that she had gained in her former life whereas Ekur would feed on humans and other things like a normal Vampire would. Maryam would often run away from Ekur just to seize opportunities to do her practices with her own kind. Draining them was almost a daily thing for her back then, whenever she was away from Ekur she would do it. This caused many tensions between the two and as said earlier, might have caused the break between the two.
A few hundred years before Maryam turned Anouk, Maryam was very unhappy about the way they lived, merciless killers. Ekur also had a taste for young children, which Maryam did not agree with. The two had a violent split up before Ekur released her, cursing her that she'd die without him. Maryam attacked Ekur, placing a stake in his back that hit his heart, but not all the way through. He was partially dead, but Maryam thought he was gone for good. Leaving him to die, she made her way to Egypt where she found Anouk. The two fell in love and began their travels when she turned Anouk, passing on powerful, ancient blood. They lived a peaceful life, killing only out of necessity. After releasing Anouk, she moved back to St. Petersburg, living there up until 1990, then she moved to Cape Town, South Africa. Maryam will make her way to Louisiana to visit Anouk where she will be facing her maker, The Reaper.
She hasn't sired anyone but Anouk.
Personality: Maryam has learned many things throughout the ages, met many people, and witnessed millions of events. Due to her old age she has been able to cultivate the secrets of the world and in doing so she always comes off as elegant and sophisticated. Centuries upon centuries upon centuries has fueled her ability to converse with many minds and sway them to her will almost. She has seen the world, traveled it's surface in her many years, ranging between ancient Mesopotamia to the modern U.S. and all around them. She knows many languages and speaks eloquently, with the grace of a goddess and the allure of a succubi. Very few are able to outwit her, she is of astounding intelligence that could make the oldest Vampires shut themselves off in their own minds. Yet she is still charitable in nature and desirable even after these many years of roaming the same planet over and over.
Maryam is an outstanding woman who is quite kind and caring even after seeing all the things she has seen of the world. Although she may seem quite stoic sometimes, she has a firm standing and isn't beyond charitable acts such as helping others. The thing nearest and dearest to her though is her childe, Anouk. The one she turned, the only one. She is very protective of her, more so than any other Maker she has met to date. She would do anything for Anouk and would go at any length to defend her in needy situations, which never bods well for the person trying to attack Anouk. They are the model relationship for maker/childe, it is thought of that no one might match their faith for each other in any way except maybe Eric Northman and his maker, Godric Godfrie. Maryam is looking forward to reuniting with her childe, something she has wanted to do for a long time. Now that she is in Louisiana, she plans to make the most of her time with Anouk.
Yet, not everything is nice and wonderful in fairyland. Despite Maryam being nice, sweet, caring, kind, etc. etc., she also knows when to be cruel and mean. Unfortunately, one thing she has never gotten over in her many years was a slight temper where she was always different then her usual self. This never went well for her victims of which she fed on, the few her and Anouk had shared throughout time. But whenever Maryam is in one of her cruel tempers, one would wish to get away even though Maryam would never willingly hurt any of her friends nor a stranger off of the street for that matter. Still, she has her slip-ups despite having been "alive" for so long. Not all Vampires are perfect even with age, and Maryam is an outstanding example for that. But in the end, this small flaw, possibly one of her only ones, is nothing compared to the decent and kind-hearted person that she is deep down. One might just overlook that indiscretion and say she was flawless. Which would be wrong in and of itself.
Possibly her biggest secret is the fact that she is an addict. To what, you might say? Well, her addiction would surprise most everybody, and scare even more. Being one of the most powerful known Vampires, she strikes fear in other Vampires because she has an addiction to V. It came about when she was still in her human life, she had become addicted to it then and it led to many killings intentionally and unintentionally throughout her life. This causes some Vampires to avoid her constantly, and others to attack her vehemously, of which they always lost. She hasn't recovered from the addiction yet obviously, and it is unlikely that she ever will because of how long she has been doing it. Maryam does it even more than before because she grows a bit tired of the world, everything being so predictable and even boring sometimes. She thinks of this practice as something that will excite her otherwise unexciting life, and she will continue to do this for as long as possible.

Have you read the books: No, not yet still.
Sample RP: Footsteps could be heard traveling across the dirt, gravel road heading into town as a the night settled across the sky. The steps belonged to an outworldly attractive female, looking to be in about her mid-thirties. The sign of Bon Temps, Louisiana shown under the bright night stars wonderfully as a small, sweet smile formed on her face. As she started to enter town, a cop car pulled up next to her, coming from town; must be the patrol. One of the cops got out with a flashlight, his gun shining brightly at his side. Holding the flashlight up to Maryam's face, he smiled cockily. "Why miss, what are you doing out so late at night and entering town in the middle of night? Pretty suspicious if you ask me...," his smile slowly faded into a glaring look, which made Maryam smile even more. She could see his hand was resting on the handle of his gun, ready to pull it out at any minute. "Oh, there's nothing wrong with a Vampire walking into town, is there? I thought it was perfectly legal," the smirk across her face grew bigger as she went on walking.
Before she got more than three feet though, like any other Vampire hater in the town of Bon Temps, the policeman pulled out his pistol and quickly aimed it at the woman. "You Vampires aren't looked good upon in this town missy, I suggest you leave while you can," his eyes were narrowed so much they looked like they were closed. This statement stopped Maryam for a moment, as her head dropped and she sighed. Turning to him, her head tilted as she looked at the pistol. "How to deal with this one...," she thought to herself before deciding to look up into his eyes. There was a moment or two where everything seemed to quiet down and the two stood there staring at each other. "Oh, that's a nice car you have there, how long have you had it?," she went through the steps of convincing this idiotic man many things, asking him many things, etc. etc. Once she was finished, she had told him to drive all the way to New York City and not to stop until he had gotten there. It would be awhile before they saw each other again, if ever.
