What would one wear for a vampire bar. That was the question that had plagued Kimberly for the entire day, after she had decided to drive her white BMW to Shreveport and find out what this Fangtasia that people kept talking about.
She had finally decided on a embellshed silk cami dress in deep blue with blue satin Zemith pumps. She had left her blonde hair open and accossoried with silver hoop earrings.
She entered the club with her midnight blue clutch and felt really nervous. She had never been to a vampire bar before and truthfully, never really had a conversation with a vampire before. Sure, she had met a few but never long enough to truly get to know one.
She made her way to the bar and ordered a dry martini. She then started to watch the people around her. Most were dressed in black or red which she found quite odd. And quite comical.

Rose was standing at the bar watching Fangtasia go around her, a bottle of blood in hand she was feeling quite despondent. Always there were your typical fangbangers and tourists here, you could tell who they were, they stood out. Mostly the wore black, of course some vampires did also, but most of them were working here. Rose wasn't one who liked to dress up for anybody but herself. Tonight she had raided her wardrobe for something more...'modern', a cream mid-length dress, very plain. She had her hair up in a chignon with a silver hairband to hold it back from her face.
Just as Rose was looking around she noticed a human walking in wearing a gorgeous little blue number. By the way she was dressed Rose thought either; this girl had never been in a vampire bar before, or was not your typical vampire follower. Of course, now and again, you found a human who was just interested in meeting vampire, without going over the top and demanding a photograph. Moving quietly Rose walked over to the female just as she was receiving her drink.
"ii wouldn't have too many of those, you already have the eye of some in here."

"I wouldn't have too many of those, you already have the eye of some in here."
Kimberly turned around fully to meet the woman who had spoken. She was brunette and had a glow about her. She was a vampire, that was something Kimberly was sure of. She was very pale and very beautiful in a simple dress that seemed out of place here.
"I hardly drink, just need to get over the jitters. I've never been to a place like this before," Kimberly confessed and blushed slightly. She noped this woman, this vampire, wouldn't think badly of her. That she was one of those 'fangbangers' she had heard so many people talking about. Not that she discriminated against anyone but to her, it felt dirrty to come to a place like this for that purpose.
"That is a very beautiful dress you are wearing," Kimberly complemented honestly. She didn't know how to start a conversation with someone who must be hundreds of years old so complementing the woman's dress sense seemed safe enough.

"I hardly drink, just need to get over the jitters. I've never been to a place like this before,"
Rose had been right, it seemed this girl had never been to a vampire bar before. Not that that bothered Rose, in fact she was impressed the girl had the sense to wear what she wasn't instead of what she thought she should. You could tell by looking at her she wasn't out to get bitten or anything else of the sort that night. With this in mind Rose thought it would be nice to have some human company for a change.
"That is a very beautiful dress you are wearing"
Smiling Rose accepted the compliment with a nod, "Thank you, I like to keep things simple. I am Rose." Whether or not the girl was sincere Rose was not sure, but she thought she was and she always enjoyed a compliment. Looking around her she seen an empty booth. and knowing how humans feet could tire, she indicated it to the girl, "Shall we take that table?" Not used to awaiting a reply from humans Rose turned lightly and walked ahead to the table.

"Thank you, I like to keep things simple. I am Rose."
"You're very welcome. I'm Kimberly," she said brightly and was relieved that the woman hadn't turned out to be very scary after all. This night was all about new experiences and breaking taboo's. She had had an idea what a vampire would be like and so far, Rose was exceeding her expectations.
"Shall we take that table?"
"Sure, that would be nice." Kimberly said and before she could move a muscle, Rose was already seated at the table of her choice. She had moved with such elegance and mighty fast.
"Wow," she said as she joined Rose at the table and admired the woman's quickness. And as soon as she had said it, she felt embarrased. Rose must think she's a total noodlehead who has never been anywhere.

"Wow"
Again Rose had not slowed down for a human, but she was in a vampire bar and it always seemed to impress. "I apologise if I moved to fast." Even though this was natural for her she felt the need to make this human feel at ease, there seemed to be a bit of magic about her.
Tonight didn't seem to be too busy, pleasing Rose as she didn't always enjoy the attention tourists would pay to vampires in places such as Fangtasia. Just as she was thinking this she witnessed a tourist approach another vampire only to be stared down. Even at that the tourist seemd excited and went back for more, this time the vampire took time to have a photo, porbably realising this one wasn't going to take no for an answer.
"It intrigues me how humans like to play with things that aren't always good for them." Rose smiled as she turned to Kimberly. "Of course that is probably what makes it exciting. You don't seem, to me, a person who wouldflirt with danger so openly. So what brings you to Fangtasia?"

"I apologise if I moved to fast."
"That's quite alright. I'm in a vampire bar after all, it ain't sweet home Atlanta anymore," Kimberly said with a smile and took another sip of her drink. Tonight felt oddly liberating; there was no way in hell mama would have ever approved of a night out in a bar crawling with undead.
"It intrigues me how humans like to play with things that aren't always good for them. Of course that is probably what makes it exciting. You don't seem, to me, a person who would flirt with danger so openly. So what brings you to Fangtasia?"
"I'm new in Luisiana. Just moved to Bon Temp to run a health care clinic and I heard people talking about this place so I wanted to check it out. I was curious and guess just wanted to know what all the fuss was about. I don't usually do dangerous things; I think the most risque thing was eating a two day of danish," Kimberly giggled nervously. She tended to babble when she was unsure what to say, so instead of staying quiet, she talked incessantly.
"Are you from around here?" Kimberly asked, feeling suddenly braver. The other woman didn't seem to be too irritated by her talking so she felt she could ask Rose something about her. Truthfully, she really wanted to ask how old Rose was but that would have been rude.

Rose listened patiently to Kimberly, she had almost forgot how humans could talk so much!! But tonight Rose was fine with it, she liked company and it helped her to remember how to behave in human society. Not many people would think it was different being a vampire, but vampires had led such various life, some loved to socialise others didn't, and although they had their own code of conduct, for centuries vampires had treated most humans as food. Rose hadn't been one to always mix within human society before the revelation so it helped now.
"Just moved to Bon Temp to run a health care clinic."
"You're a nurse? Of course you could also be a doctor." Rose liked learning about humans and their lives, they lived such hort lives that everything seemed exciting to them. They could always talk about the things they liked with such enthusiasm.
"Are you from around here?"
A bold girl with no fear. Well, I don't mind sharing some. Rose was slightly surprised by the question, not just because Kimberly had asked it, but she hadn't realised she was talking without an accent. Most vampires could speak a couple of languages, having moved around, and it was natural to lose your own accent, unless extreme emotion is expressed. "Originally? No I was born in a small village in England, you have probably never heard of it, Bettys-y-Crywn. Though I am currently residing at the the Living dead Hotel."

"You're a nurse? Of course you could also be a doctor."
"I'm a nurse. First woman in our family to leave Atlanta because of work and not a man. And the first female college graduate as well," Kimberly smiled proudly. Mama had disapproved of course, like she always did but she like to think that non the less mama Hollingsworth was proud of her.
Kimberly was happy now the conversation seemed to be going. Rose so far was polite and had shown interest in her so she was tickled pink. Maybe she had made a new friend.
"Originally? No I was born in a small village in England, you have probably never heard of it, Bettys-y-Crywn. Though I am currently residing at the the Living dead Hotel."
"Wow, I have never been to England. To be honest, I've never really left North-America before. Actually, been to the Bahamas a couple times with my family but I would love to travel more." Kimberly chatted again, very intrigued by this female vampire.

"The first female graduate? I'm sure your family are proud of that."
Kimberly seemed very at ease speaking to Rose, who was enjoying her openness. She didn't always share details about her life with humans, but this one had not demanded anything of her or played up to her. It was easy to get what you wanted most times, if you were a vampire, that didn't always mean you enjoyed it. Small talk felt almost natural, looking at a passing waitress Rose barely even needed to indicate she wanted more drinks for the table. Rose wasn't sure how much a human could drink before losing some of their senses, but she was sure she take one more drink. As the waitress returned, quickly setting their drinks down Rose turned to Kimberly, "Don't worry about paying, I shall pay for this."
Kimberly revealed she had never been outside North America, though this didn't surprise Rose much. America was a big enough country that many of the people who lived there didn't always holiday outside it. "Being a vampire I have of course travelled, but I have had much more time than you. I am sure had my human life continued I may never have went farther than the next town. It was so back then."

"The first female graduate? I'm sure your family are proud of that."
"Well I sure hope so. Althought my mama would have been more proud if I had found myself a rich husband and became a society wife like she is." Kimberly laughed and took another sip of her drink.
"Don't worry about paying, I shall pay for this."
"Are you sure? I'll just get the next round then. Gotta spend that trust fund money on something. I'm not a big drinker usually but tonight, I want to have fun," she said her eyes sparkling. It had been awhile since she had properly let her hair down. Some might have argued that a vampire bar was a mighty dangerous one to do that in but the protective charm her grandmama had thought her should keep things fairly safe.
Being a vampire I have of course travelled, but I have had much more time than you. I am sure had my human life continued I may never have went farther than the next town. It was so back then."
"In a way, I envy the freedom you have as a vampire. The ability to travel anywhere without a care in the world. I can only dream of that kind of freedom." She said with a hint of longing in her voice. As a child, she had often fantasied about leaving everything behind and going to explore the world but she had never fulfilled any of those dreams. Maybe one day.

"Well I sure hope so. Although my mama would have been more proud if I had found myself a rich husband and became a society wife like she is."
Rose thought about this statement, in some ways no matter how society advanced some things never seemed to change. When she was growing up 'society' was out of her reach, all her and her friends could do was talk and dream. But having now lived for centuries she no longer seen the appeal of such a thing, but of course this is what some are taught as the grow up. Rose lifted her Tru Blood and took a sip, slowly flicking her tongue around her lips she savoured the taste of the synthetic blood as she remembered a brief moment she had spent at an opera night. "I take it your mother enjoys her role as a society wife then?" Rose got a mental image of what these women were like, and it contrasted so differently to the girl in front of her, I cannot imagine Kimberly in such a role. Even though I have known her for such a short period.
"Are you sure? I'll just get the next round then."
Smiling Rose looked at Kimberly with what could only be a hint of humour in her eyes. "Kimberly I have lived for centuries; to pay for a drink or two in not much to me. Our conversation not only interests me but you are different from most in this bar, it is my pleasure to buy you a drink." Sometimes Rose still had trouble understanding humans, they had their own ways and manners about them. She knew Kimberly was sincere and did not want to make her feel uncomfortable. "But of course you can order the next...round, if you so desire. You shall have fun if you want, I find it is much better to make your own fun." As Rose reflected on this she hoped she hadn't come across as a vampire who might want something, she could feel her forehead almost frown at what she had said. I should remember better that I am not speaking to a vampire. If it had been possible Rose would have let out a sigh, she straightened and looked back at Kimberly, "I sometimes have trouble talking with humans, my words, I hope, do not sound too convoluted."
As Rose said this she almost missed Kimberly talking about the freedom a vampire has to travel. It was something most vampires had done as a necessity to their survival. "I suppose there is freedom, but there are..were..." Rose visibly frowned this time, "still are restrictions, though not so much these days."

"I take it your mother enjoys her role as a society wife then?
"Oh yes. My mama was brought up to be a wife of a rich guy. I mean she and Big Daddy love each other but had he not had money, I doubt mama would have ever married him. She likes the tea parties, balls and things such as that. The status as Mrs. George Hollinsgworth III means the world to her. I ain't like that at all, but at least she has my two sisters-in-law to satisfy that longing for her. Both my brother's married a girl of old money heritage," Kimberly explained thoughfully. She too had been trained to be a wife but had always been too much of an outsider in those circles to truly ever be happy there.
"I know you are probably very wealthy, having lived for such a long time but it's only polite to offer. Little give and take makes the world go around," she said with a laugh.
I sometimes have trouble talking with humans, my words, I hope, do not sound too convoluted."
"That's quite alright. I'm human and most of the time I have trouble speaking to people in way that they would understand. Most people think I'm a noodlehead so I'm used to people not always understanding what I say." Kimberly said laughing again, this time for longer. She didn't mind people having the wrong idea about her, it was their shame if they didn't make the time to get to know her better.
"I suppose there is freedom, but there are..were....still are restrictions, though not so much these days."
"I'm sorry, I was speaking again without thinking. It must have been hard before vampires came out of the coffins; so much distrust and hatred being sent your way. I can't pretend to know much about your kind, only what I have read," she said, softening her tone this time.

Rose was soon of the impression that Kimberly held a naive charm, she had no qualms revealing information, it would not be hard for Rose to discover her mothers address if needed. Though this was a mere passing thought, as she was enjoying her company. I may be able to grow fond of this human. Even with this though Rose felt that no harm could essentially come to Kimberly, there was something of magic about her, though she could not quite put her finger on it. Rose had never been overly good at detecting magic traces, though she could tell if others were vampire or shifter, magic held little for her, maybe she had just never been interested in it and hence her ability to detect it was flawed.
"Of course you are correct Kimberly, it is only polite to offer."
A human brought up with good manners always delighted Rose, to often she had seen how humans could forget themselves these days. Maybe the Great Revelation was a good thing, she thought to herself, vampires demand to be respected, and a humans fear of them could teach them that. Rose left this line of thought for later examination, this was not the time or place, glancing at the dancefloor she watched a couple as they moved around.
"I'm sorry, I was speaking again without thinking. It must have been hard before vampires came out of the coffins; so much distrust and hatred being sent your way. I can't pretend to know much about your kind, only what I have read,"
"Do not worry about that, you could not have been expected to know," Rose looked back around at Kimberly and gave her a soft smile, "Each person have only there own experiences to go by."

Kimberly was silent for awhile. She realized by the look on Rose's face that she had been rambling again. It was indeed a nervous habit and she couldn't help it. She hoped Rose wouldn't mind.
"Of course you are correct Kimberly, it is only polite to offer."
"Manners are important to me. I was raised to be kind and polite and not remembering to be those would just be unsouthern." She was liking this vampire more and more. These days so few people cared enough to be polite and gracious and that in particular was a pet peeve of Kimberly's.
"Do not worry about that, you could not have been expected to know...Each person have only there own experiences to go by."
"That is very true. I have to admit to being very curious about your kind. My grandma used to tell me stories about the vampires she had met and I was always so jealous of the life she lived. My grandmama was a witch," she explained carefully, leaving out her own ties to witchcraft.
Even though she could see herself becoming really friendly with this vampire, she wasn't sure would it be a smart thing to admit to being a witch. So far, only a handful of people knew and maybe it ws indeed for the best to keep it that way.
