She had told Jason to meet her at this bar that belonged to the shifter. Now she was wishing that she had just allowed him to do the whole pick me up at 8 scenario. Delaney still didn't really know anyone in Bon Temps and she didn't really want to run into the shifter's woman again. That would be something that would completely ruin her night. Delaney had been able to rent a car thanks to her new job working for Pam at the Living Dead Hotel. Also courtesy of her work she was able to wear something that was going to make Jason drool.
Delaney ran her hands through her hair to gain some courage and entered the bar. As soon as she walked in Delaney felt extremely overdressed. This was a small town bar, where you sat your self and there was probably a small food menu. She looked around and tried to ignore the stares. Finally she was able to find a booth that was open and hoped that Jason would get here soon. The girl had never felt more out of place in her life.

Jason was running late because he was having trouble figuring out what to wear. He had asked Delaney out to dinner because he had wanted to learn if she had made any progress on finding her brother. Now he was wondering if that had just been an excuse just so he could see her again. Jason decided to go with jeans and a nice shirt. Lord he hoped he wasn't over dressed. Most of the time he wore a tee shirt or something flannel so for him to come out in this was almost like a suit and tie. Jason pulled into the parking lot and looked around. She was probably already inside waiting on his a**. As he walked into the bar, his heart skipped a beat. There she was sitting alone at a booth. He smiled automatically and walked up to her. "Hey there, man, you sure do look pretty. I am so sorry I was late. I just got so nervous for some reason coming here to meet you. Maybe I was worried that you had found your brother and he was going to be here waiting." Jason chuckled nervously and sat down. He looked around for a waitress. "You ordered a drink yet or you want something to eat?"

Delaney's heart sped up as she saw Jason approach. He looked great in his dress crew sweater and jeans. "Oh no, I just got here and wanted to wait until you arrived before I ordered anything."
She clasped her hands together nervously. The only time they had really spoken to each other was when they had been calling places in Shreveport looking for her brother. "No, I still haven't found Vaughn and I am worried that he has hurt him self some where and doesn't remember who he is."
Delaney thought grimly. "Or that the remaining pack has found him and drug him back to Riverdale."
She calmly waved her hand with dismissal. "Besides, I don't think Vaughn would be the over protective type. My sister and I have been out with many guys before and he never interfered so you should have nothing to worry about."
Delaney relaxed back into the booth. She was starting to calm down and act more natural. "I did pick up a lead though about who might be able to find him. I went down to Shreveport to the Living Dead Hotel per Sookie's suggestion and spoke with Pam."
The young girl wasn't about to tell Jason the company Pam suggested she seek or about Alcide. She couldn't afford to burn that bridge before she got there. Delaney smiled brightly at Jason. "I am going back there tomorrow and then I will be heading to work. I got a job working for Pam in her store...she is actually a lot friendlier than I had expected."
Her mouth began to run dry she had been talking so much non stop. "I am quite parched actually. Would you like to order drinks now?"

Jason felt a little concerned for Delaney. "You got a job...working for Pam...who told you a little something that you are going to investigate tomorrow before work?" He placed his hands on the table. "You sure you wanna do that? I mean it seems a little dangerous to go there alone. No offense to Pam but I really don't trust a vampire for nothing...except maybe Bill. Even then I am not sure...it all just seems a little too convenient for me."
He heard her ask for a drink so Jason flagged down Arlene. "I want the usual and what will you have?" Jason looked at Delaney expectantly.

She smiled brightly at the waitress. "I would love a Rolling Rock if that is available, if not a Bud Light..." Arlene wrote down the orders and walked off. "I know it seems a little dangerous to go down there but I need to find my family and if she can help then I will do whatever it takes."
Delaney reached across the table and placed her hand over Jason's. "Thank you for being so concerned. I don't know what I would have done if you hadn't stopped me from leaving the other night. You and Sookie are practically like family with all the help you are giving me." The other night had been one of the most enlightening situations Delaney had ever been in. For the first time she had been a witness to human kindness, compassion and total understanding. These people were in a class all by themselves.
"I have never anyone outside our pack who knew about our dual nature. It was really strange but comforting at the same time to know that there was something special about Sookie and that I wasn't being stalked or anything." Delaney giggled. "I was all types of paranoid...I mean I am not right? You don't mind that I am a...shifter." She looked worriedly into his eyes. Lord she really hoped not. This whole outfit would have been for nothing.

Jason's heart began to pound when Delaney laid her hand on his. Man her skin felt soft and it seemed as if it was hotter than usual. "Why would I care about that? You are just like me 'cept you have 3 days outta tha month where you become a little more than human. You don't kill people for lunch and you are real smart an sweet. The way I see it, you are better than half the folks in this town, shoot you are a better person than me!" Not that it took much to be better than Jason but he wasn't about to bring that up.
He returned to his main concern about her new job. "Look, I know Pam seems like the type of vampire you can trust but she really is only looking out for two people, herself and Eric. She likes my sis and that is good because I know she won't let nothing happen to Sookie but you ain't exactly on her top five and I am sure she'd sleep just fine at night if something happened while you were looking for your family. All I am sayin is just watch your step around them and don't take nothin they say at face value. The vamps in Shreveport always have a price for the help they give."
Jason didn't want to believe that Pam would hurt Delaney but he also hadn't believed that Eric would want anything to do with any human up here 'cept Sookie but he was proven wrong when he had seen Eric and Haylee in Merlotte's the other week. Eric was ruthless when it came to gettin what he wanted and if Pam was the instrument in gaining what he wanted then he'd do it and Pam would probably be more than eager to do it.
"Enough with all that borin' sh*t, I know you ain't come out here all this way to hear me lecture you like I am your dad or somethin'. Speakin of your dad, you never have really talked about him or your mom or anything about where you are from, other than some crazy talk about people from your tribe coming to get you...." Jason had a wild sense of curiosity and tended to jump in face first. "I don't mean to pry or nothin' and if you don't feel up to it then you ain't gotta tell me but I would like to know a little more about you."

Delaney blushed at his concern. "You really are too much. I promise I will never take what any vampire from Shreveport says at face value. I swear to you this night on this cocktail napkin that they shall be forever banned from the circle of trust." She gripped his hand better and adjusted it so they were holding hands comfortably.
She knew eventually she would have to give him some kind of version of the truth. Not that she didn't want to tell him everything, it would just be better for Jason if he were ever questioned about her and couldn't provide accurate information. "Well let's see, you know I am from Riverdale, I have a sister and a brother, we each have different fathers so that we could all have the possibility of being a shifter to strengthen the pack, I love history and languages and cultures so the next time we go out somewhere together I wouldn't mind seeing a museum or an art gallery."
She smiled at him as their drinks were sat down. "Thank you." Delaney stated to their waitress. It was always a good idea to be nice to the people who would eventually be handling the food they would eat. "My mom is terrific and very energetic. She loves to laugh and spend as much time with us as she can. That is probably why she was so popular with the males of our pack." There used to be a time when Delaney resented her siblings because her mother had to endure what Delaney felt was the ultimate humiliation of being passed around like a piece of meat.
Her mother said that she hadn't minded because that was her duty to the pack. She had given strong heirs that would be beneficial and all of her partners had been very loving and handsome. She said she felt like a princess whenever any of her men came to visit and she liked being waiting on and pampered. No one had any legal claim to any of her assets because she had never married and she would never have to worry about anything (except her kids) for the rest of her life. Once Delaney had come to terms with the fact that it had indeed been her mothers choice, she began to feel more at ease with her other family members.
"My dad is typical father except that he treats me more like a son instead of a daughter. When my brother had been born, my dad grew excited because he thought that mom would be breeding males. Turns out that my brother was a fluke. The doctor said after I was born that Vaughn being male with mom was like a million to one chance. Needless to say my dad wasn't completely as over joyed as he once had been but he loved me all the same. He really wanted me to take a place in the upper ranks of the pack by marrying in. I really had no interest in doing any such thing but unlike Vaughn and Rylan, I am a bit of a push over. I am sure if I had stayed in Riverdale I would be getting ready to walk down the aisle instead of finding some lost treasure in an ancient civilization."
She looked down at the table and smiled. "My job wasn't important to anyone but me. The pack viewed it as a hobby until I settled down and had babies. I am really glad that I decided to leave. Unlike my mom, it wouldn't be my choice and anything I had would be just another link in the chains of my imprisonment. Probably even any children I had too. What child wants to grow up knowing their mother can't stand them. I wouldn't have been able to live with myself."
Delaney took a drink of her beer and giggled. "Man, I really know how to ruin a good time don't I? Just call me Debbie Downer!" She hadn't meant to go in this direction but she hadn't told anyone her feelings about the current situation she was in and once her mouth opened she just couldn't stop. "Well, now that I have insured that we will never go out again ever, do you want to tell me anything about you?"

Jason sat still for a moment after listening to this major revelation. He had no idea that her past was so complicated or so heavy. When they first met she seemed so alive and upbeat. She had really been carrying this burden this whole time. Jason stroked the part of her hand b/t the thumb and finger with his own thumb.
"I don't know about you but it takes a lot of courage to admit what you want outta life. Also takes a lot of courage to tell that to a complete stranger. Maybe its easier to tell some one you hardly know your biggest fears or secrets."
Jason smiled at Delaney. "You ain't scared me girl, I got more than enough skeletons in my closet. My closest friend was a murderer. He killed a bunch of girls in Bon Temps that had slept with vampires. My own sis who is dating vampire Bill was the main one he was trying to kill when he accidentally killed my grandmother."
He looked down in his beer and his eyes welled up just thinkin' of Gran. "I was blind to his faults because I was so self involved. I ain't too proud of the man I was but I am tryin' to change. I was a womanizer, a real bad one. So much so the cops thought I was the one who killed all those girls. My girlfriend was pushin' V and we laid around half messed up most of the time. She was killed by him too. He thought she was messin with a vamp behind my back."
Jason quickly wiped the tears from his eyes and took a drink. After a few moments passed he looked into Delaney's eyes. "I ain't a smart man but I am trying to learn how to be a good man. I guess what I am trying to say is, we all got sh*t that we don't want anyone to see. Every now and then its good to get it off your chest otherwise it would blow up and then where would we be?"
He thought it would be best to save his FOTS story for later. Delaney had enough on her plate to chew for now.

Delaney squeezed Jason's hand. "I guess we have a lot on our plates right now...a lot of things to think about and to try and work out..." She really hated to say this especially after the confession he had just made on her behalf. "I am not really sure what to say Jason other than you have had to deal with more bullsh*t than any human should ever have to deal with."
She let go of his hand and pushed a strand of hair behind her ear. "I really like you, quite a bit but maybe I am getting too carried away. We did only just meet and there is a lot we still don't know about each other. I guess we should just take things slow and see where the road leads? Maybe we should just be friends or I don't know, gosh, I sound really lame right now."
She blushed. "I usually have a good grasp on the English language too." Delaney just thought too much. She never just let her emotions take her anywhere. It was frustrating to find some one who she felt like she could bare her soul to only to realize that he needed some one to be able to take care of him and mend his wounds over something devastating that had just happened. Delaney didn't know if she was ready to be that person for some one. So what was she saying, she just wanted a fling? That didn't seem like her or anything that would have previously crossed her mind but...
"I guess I am just looking for something to ease the loneliness? Does that sound terrible? I don't know if I am strong enough to be that woman for you when I am dealing with all this baggage as well. What are you thinking? I really hope I am not ruining my chance with you and I doubly hope that you are still willing to be seen with me after this. I still can't believe that all I am wanting right now is a brief affair...this really isn't like me at all."

Jason couldn't believe his ears. The first time in his life he was willing to try a relationship and all the girl wanted was a friendship with benefits. He shook his head as he chuckled. "I really can't believe this is happening right now. I know you ain't mean nothing by it but d*mn...I feel like my heart's been ripped out and torn to bits."
Jason smiled and drank his beer. She was so dang cute though. "Alright I am over it. How 'bout we get out of here and go make something of the brief affair you were wanting. Then after that affair I was thinkin' we could have another affair and if you really ain't satisfied we can have as many affairs as you want because I want you Delaney, I want you real bad and I will take you any way I can get you."

She arched her eyebrows in surprise. Then she relaxed as she heard what he was really saying to her. He understood how she felt, he felt the exact same way. Delaney tilted her head to the side and gave a small chuckle. "I know we just had this whole baring soul moment and I guess I wasn't really trying to get too heavy with backstory...it was just supposed to be a drink with a friend to catch up on the weeks events..."
The shifter could feel the electricity rippling through them and was glad that Jason wasn't offended or even put off by what she had said. Then when he started to talk about the multiple affairs she turned a deep shade of crimson. This was definitely what she had asked for and there was no way she was going to back down. "I will see your offer and raise you ten..."she saw the waitress and flagged her down. "I am sorry to do this but we need the order to go and most definitely the check."

Jason pulled out his wallet and threw some bills on the table. "I guess that didn't take long. I can go get the food and you meet me by my truck. Can't miss it, flaming hot." He bounced out of the booth and ran to the bar to wait on their burgers. Jason felt like it was an eternity before the food was finally ready.
As he ran out to the truck. He smiled as he unlocked it and helped her inside. "I got an extra order of fries. I have a feeling we are gonna need it."

Delaney practically ran to the truck. It wasn't hard to find, the pink flames really stood out. She put her head in her hands and laughed. This was so getting ready to happen and she couldn't wait. How long did it take to get food, really?
