Shape-shifters are another species that claim the night in True Blood and the Sookie Stackhouse novels. Although they are not as vicious as the werewolves or vampires, they have their own set of laws as well:

- A shifter does not usually transform into many different animals, it takes time to develop the perfect transformation to one animal and most stay with just one.
- Although they can shift into birds, flying is harder and must be learned, just like walking.
- Shifters have heightened senses including smell and sound.
- Since shifters have not yet declared their presence to the public, they transform in private, only loved one know about them
- They have at least one shifter doctor stationed at every major hospital to ensure the safety of shifters that take missions
- While some are aware that there are more shifters around, some do not know of a shifter community and consider themselves to be alone.
- Every shifter must transform on a full moon, they cannot help themselves.
- They need a live animal as a model.
- They change back into human form when they fall asleep.
