Sam walked through the empty bar and sat down on one of the chairs with a sigh. It had been a chaotic weekend. Some good parts, some not so good parts and some downright amazing parts. But today he had to put it all behind him for the time being. Kyle was due to arrive any minute now to fll out some paperwork before he officially started his first shift.
It was a boring thing for both of them, but it was a necessary evil. Especially for someone under legal drinking age. Sam hoped there'd be no problems hiring Kyle. He seemed willing to get in and do the dirty work necessary and well working with Lafayette is always interesting.

Kyle stepped through the open door and gave it a smooth shove, hearing it click closed behind him. Normally it would be too early for Kyle to even consider getting out of bed, but he had a job now. So, back to routine. Suppose it's good to get into routine now for when school starts which...come to think of it, is soon. He didn't see Sam in the main area, so he walked back to the office area, or whatever it's called. "Sam?" He called out, wanting to give the man a heads up about his presence.

Sam had only popped into the back for a brief moment when he heard his name being called. Kyle was here. Sam looked at his watch, 10:45am. "Good timing" he said to himself as he walked back out into the main seating area.
"Hey there. You wanna take a seat and I'll bring out all the paperwork here." Sam said with a smile. "Best to do it out here, so I can keep my eye on things at the same time." he paused after the brief explanation. "You want a coke or something before we start?"

Kyle gave smile a polite smile and took a seat at one of the tables - the bar just didn't seem appropriate for this kind of things. "Ahm, a sprite would be nice. Thanks" Hmm, Merlotte's seemed different when it was empty, quiet... He hoped the 'paperwork' didn't take too long, it sounded kinda boring anyway. But aw well, necessary evil. He had seen how fast Lafayette had to work on those busy nights, and hoped that he could keep up with the fast pace. But, he considers himself a quick study, so it should work out fine.

Sam got up and walked to the bar and poured out a Sprite for Kyle into a glass and put a few icecubes inside the glass. He walked back over towards it and placed it down in front of him on a coaster.
"So when would be the best days and hours for you to work." Sam got straight to it. He needed to get through it quickly so he could get prepped for the incoming hordes of Bon Temps natives. "I guess you'll be starting school soon. So we'll have to work around that."

Kyle muttered a "Thanks" as he accepted the cold beverage, taking a pleasing sip before setting it back onto the coaster. "Yeah, schools starting up again soon, but anything out of school hours is fine with me. Homeworks not that big of a deal - I have it done pretty quickly. Most times." He didn't wanna sound like a bookworm, but the homeworks that they got rarely ever required huge amounts of time to complete anyway.

Sam listened in intently. Seemed like a good deal, Kyle could work nights after-school and John would work the day shift. "That's perfect. I'l get you some forms to fill out and soon as Lafayette is in, I'll get him to show you the ropes." Sam stood up from the table and walked towards the back. "Excuse me a second, I'll go get them from my office."
Sam walked through the back and into his office. He went to his three high, file cabinet and pulled open the middle drawer and fingered through the documents carefully. Took out what he needed and made his way back to the table and laid them down in front of Kyle. "sh*t, forgot a pen." he scooted over to the bar and grabbed a black ball point pen. Raced back over to the table and handed it to Kyle.
"For now until you start school, you can do a few hours whenever you can. Learn how it all operates in the back from Lafayette and John, the other kitchen hand." Sam explained. "Soon as school starts you can come in, actually what would be the best time for you to start after school?"

Kyle just gave the older man a nod as he moved off into his office to retrive the papers, and took another drink of his Sprite to pass the time. Well, there wasn't that much time to kill as Sam came back pretty rapid-ish. He took the forms, smiling as the other man dashed away again, this time for a pen. Nice to know he wasn't the only person around her that was ditsy like that every now and again.
"Sure, that sounds fine. And...probably about 4:30? That gives me time to get home and changed and stuff" He ansered before turning down to the forms, dotting the proverbial 'I''s and crossing the proverbial 'T''s.

Sam mulled over what Kyle said. It seemed acceptable and he should be able to work the shift roster out that it was fair for everyone.
"4:30 is good" he replied, still standing. "I can work that out with Lafayette and John. I don't see there being too much of a problem." Sam extended his hand out to Kyle with a warm friendly smile. "Welcome to Merlotte's."

Kyle nodded and stood up as well, setting the pen down ontop of the paperwork, so it didn't get lost. He was always doing that. "It's...good to be here" He said, stupidly, taking Sam's extended hand and giving it a good shake or two. What else was he supposed to say? What else could he say?

"Okay, if you fill out those forms for me. I'll just be behind the bar getting set up for today." he started, "Hopefully Lafayette will be in soon." Sam looked at his watch, he was late. That was unusual for Lafayette. But he always gave his workers the benefit of the doubt.
"Once you finish those, give me a holler and I'll take them into the office for you." Sam smiled and walked over to the bar and started turning on all the lights and other electrical appliances. He hoped Lafayette wouldn't be too late or else he'd have to call in Terry Bellefleur and that was a risk in of itself.

Kyle nodded to the bar owner and sat back down, lifting the pen and beginning the long process of filling out the forms. Well, it wasn't long, but it felt it due to it's boring-ness. Every now and again he would either sigh or start humming a random tune to himself as he scribbled down his details. They even had one of those equal opportunites questionnaires attached to the end. The faith question always made him smile as he wrote down Witch. The humans would think he meant wiccan, but no, he meant witch.
"All done" he announded, standing and taking the completed forms over to Sam at the bar. "So...now I just wait for Lafayette and he teaches me what's what?"

Kyle seemed to be done with his forms really quickly. Sam put down the dishcloth in his hand and went back over to Kyle's table. Taking them from him and as he started back into his office he heard Kyle call over to him.
"So...now I just wait for Lafayette and he teaches me what's what?"
Sam pondered the question as Lafayette still hadn't arrived. "Uh, if he hasn't arrived in 15 minutes. I'll go through it with you, but he should be here. We don't have another cook, other than Terry and he's my last resort." he gave Kyle an apologetic smile. "That okay?"

Kyle nodded, "Yeah, that's fine." Kyle answered, taking a seat on one of the bar stools. Terry Bellfleur, Andy's cousin and a man who wasn't quite right. Not that Terry was mean or bad or anything, it's just that the war had taken it's tole on him, and now he was...just a little bit off. But he seemed nice enough. Kyle had never really spoken to him for any length of time.

"Good" Sam mused, "I'll just go pop these into my office. I won't be long." he turned on his heels and walked into the back and into his office. He placed all the forms Kyle filled in and placed them into his In Tray. Sam again thought of Lafayette. Maybe he should call him, see what's keeping him.
Sam strode back into the front of the bar and he felt bad for Kyle. This was his official first day working at Merlotte's and there he was sitting at a table, like he was a paying customer. "I'm real sorry about this." Sam held his arms out. "I'll try to call Lafayette and see what's keepin' him."
