"Oh sh*t B..."
Yeah, that was a good way to put it. Oh sh*t. For someone who was a witch and dating a shapeshifter she certainly had become involved with vampires. It wasn't even intentional, and it just sort of happened. Nonetheless, she had been saved by an ancient vampire - twice, she may add, was friends with a vampire servant of the queen and was a servant herself of the queen.
She was truly an exception to the 'witches don't deal with vampires' and 'vampires don't like witches' rule.
"Run? What? Are you sh*tting me? Please, tell me you're sh*tting me."
"We have no choice Summer. I am too weak to fight Maryann and Sam doesn't stand a chance against Maryann and the whole town. Running is our only option, we aren't too happy about pulling the cowards' way out but we really have no choice"

Summer shook her head angrily. "No!" she paced again. "No, there has to be another way. Some way to fight back. This is bullsh*t!"
Summer looked to both Brandy and Sam, pleading with her eyes. Running was futile, the past always had a way of creeping up behind you when you least expected it.

Summer was not happy about Sam and Brandy's plan. Not one bit and she made her voice is discontent heard loud and clear. Sam listened to her, she had a point as much as he hated to admit it.
"I don't know Summer...." he sighed. "This is too big. I don't know if there's any way out of this other than escape." he looked at Brandy, all he wanted to do was protect her, not drag her into an even bigger mess. "I'll do it, but I want you to stay behind" he said, taking Brandy's hand. "You've been through too much and I don't want you getting hurt anymore."

"I don't know Summer...."
It was Sam who had answered.
"This is too big. I don't know if there's any way out of this other than escape."
Brandy's eyes had cast downward to the blanket. She had been thinking the same way.. both Brandy and Sam were way in over their heads.
"I'll do it, but I want you to stay behind. You've been through too much and I don't want you getting hurt anymore."
He took her hand but she didn't look at him, she had looked at Summer. Summer would know just by looking into Brandy's brown eyes - that there was no way she was going to stay behind.
"We will think of something. But this is our battle Summer. I need you to respect that, as my friend."

Summer anxiously awaited a response, from either of them. They had to listen to reason, they had to understand that the only way to be rid of something so terrible was to confront it head on. Summer had first hand experience of this with the return of Dale, no Travis, to her life. It's hard to look into the eyes of a man that tried to violate you in the worst way.
Now it seems Brandy and Sam had there own demons to fight. Sam spoke up and determined he'd go back and fight, telling Brandy to stay behind.
Brandy looked up at Summer. She appeared resolute. "We will think of something. But this is our battle Summer. I need you to respect that, as my friend."
Summer sighed. She couldn't defy her friend. But she could offer support, loyalty and trust. "I'm not happy about it B, but I respect you enough to let you do this...and at least you're not alone." she sad nodding to Sam. "But if you need me, for anything at all. Name it and I'll be there."

"I'm not happy about it B, but I respect you enough to let you do this...and at least you're not alone."
Brandy nodded slowly, her eyes feeling heavy as she realized just now how tired she was. It had been a long, terrifying day - and now, with it finally coming to an end, all Brandy wanted to do was sleep.
For Hours.
"But if you need me, for anything at all. Name it and I'll be there."
"I know Summer, that is why I love you"
Brandy had smiled warmly at Summer, she really did love Summer.. in a way that only the best of friends could. They had a friendship that was strong, true, and that nobody could ever change.
"Thank you again, for everything. I promise once everything is done, I will call you. Sam and I will be strong, and face this demon... together."
And that was when she looked right at Sam - her way of saying there was no way in hell she was staying behind.

Sam took Brandy's hand tighter. She was as stubborn as she always was. Summer appeared to light a spark under her, make her realise that fighting back was better than cowering in some other place far away.
He looked to Summer, "I'll take care of her, you can trust me with her. I'd die before I let anything happen to Brandy ever again."
There was something so final about the words. Something so foreboding. The calm before the storm. The deep breath before the plunge.

Summer pointed her finger at Sam. Her face was dark and serious. "You had better or else I'll kick your ass Sam Merlotte!"
Summer walked over to the bedside and knelt down beside Brandy. "Be strong B, like I know you can. Don't forget to call me, if you need me." she hugged her friend as gently as she could. "You know I love you too honey. Take care of yourself and each other."
Summer placed a kiss on her forehead and stood up and made her way out towards the door, opening it. She turned with a sombre smile and closed the door behind her.

Derek was not impressed, he knew that Maryann had been pure unadulterated evil but he had no idea that Brandy was in the middle of it. He had happened upon Maryann's house when the moon had risen but he had not gone near the house. He had not gone near the house because he had smelled her blood in the forest.
You would think he shouldn't care, after all, his ex girlfriend had given him up for another man. You think he would be happy that her blood was splattered all over the ground, that it littered the night air itself. But the truth was, he had cared. He had cared very much.
He knew what Maryann was, he knew the whole legend and he knew where her power had come from. He even knew why she had wanted Sam Merlotte. And most importantly, he knew how to kill her - but he didn't seek her death, what he sought was a way out.
In a strange, twisted way, Derek wanted to be with Maryann.
She was his way out, and he didn't want to see her completely destroyed. No, Maryann to him - in her sick, twisted way, was beautiful.
Derek followed the staggered path of Brandy's blood, of her essence that had lead him right to a motel just a little ways out of Bon Temps. He could even tell you exactly what motel room she was in, but it wasn't even her that he had wanted to see.
It was her lover, Sam Merlotte.
Derek took out a cigarette, a habit he couldn't kick, and leaned against a phone booth where he could see the motel door. He didn't know what he was going to do or how he was going to lure Sam outside.
Maybe fate would coax Sam out, after all - it worked in mysterious ways.

Brandy had been asleep for hours, Sam had dozed off beside her. Something made him wake up, maybe it was just the paranoia or nerves. He wasn't quite sure. Either way he was awake now and he gently slipped his arm away from her, not wanting to disturb her in anyway. He gazed down at his sleeping beauty, he loved her so much. But he worried about her just as much, the next few days had the potential to be the most perilous and dangerous of either of there lives.
He took her phone and left her a small text message on it, just to let her know where he was incase she woke up with him gone.
He looked out his shirt that Brandy had taken earlier and put it back on. Taking the room keys and stuffing them in the the front pocket of his jeans. Opening and closing the door behind him quietly.
He made his way over to the Motel Managers office to ask for a days extension. He rang the bell for service and about 5 minutes later over came a plump lady, greying hair haphazardly pinned up in a bun. She was more than happy to extend Sam and Brandy's stay. Sam gave her a small deposit and made his way back to the room to check on Brandy.
Something made him stop, something lurking in the shadows out into the distance. He shook his head. "Paranoid." he muttered to himself and continued to walk.

((ooc: Permission has been granted for this *little* god modding))
The cigarette had been burning away endlessly as he kept his eye on the motel door. He had been waiting outside for about 15 minutes and he might of knocked on the door or something, had he not of seen movement in the motel room. How satisfying that the movement was coming from Sam, and Derek had flicked the cigarette to the side when he saw Sam leave the motel alone.
Alone was very important, his dark eyes following Sam's figure toward the motel office and then back toward the motel door. This would be a lot different from their last meeting, as he wasn't trying to lure Brandy away from Sam this time.. no, this meeting was something very different.
Sam wouldn't come to Derek willingly, Derek wasn't stupid. He also didn't want Brandy coming out and interrupting them - no, it was very important that Brandy or anyone else didn't know what was going to happen. That was why Derek kicked his speed and his strength into high gear and quite literally, body-checked Sam in mid-flight.
Sam wouldn't expect it, which Derek had used to his advantage and had Sam by the throat around the back of the motel before Sam could of even blinked an eye or retaliated.
Like a bullet train. One moment your standing there, walking to your motel room, and the next minute your up against a wall being held up in the air by your throat. Derek wasn't squeezing hard, his intention was far from killing Sam that night, in fact his intention was quite the opposite. What Derek was doing however, was keeping him up there and looking intensely into Sam's furious blue eyes.
Oh, was Sam ever furious, had the circumstances have been different Derek might of been content to play around with the shifter a bit. It was almost amusing to Derek.
Almost.
"Listen to me, and listen to me good, plaidy. I am going to put you down and you are going to be a man and stay the f*ck where you are. No yelling. No running. No games. I know who is coming for you, I know what is coming for you and I know how to stop her."
Derek released his hand, which was going to send Sam dropping about 3 feet but Derek wasn't really one to put someone down 'gently' after holding them up in the air by their neck. He stepped back away from Sam, the sincere look on his face was full of genuine concern - something rarely seen on Derek's face, even when he was a witch.
"I smelled her blood. She was close to death wasn't she? I hate you with every fiber of my being and it should of been you instead of her. But it wasn't. I'm not going to bore you with the details, I am going to tell you what you need to know - and I am going to tell how this is going to play out. So tell me, shifter, are you going to listen to me and be a man, or are you going to be a coward - and prove right my opinion of you all along?"

Before Sam knew what had hit him, he was being swooped away and his back hit a wall. Hard. He was being held up by something, someone that was very very strong. Then his shifter senses kicked in and he realised it was a Vampire. Sam fought against the strong hands that had him pressed up against the hard surface. His eyes opened and then widened as he instantly recognised the face of the one who had snatched him away.
Sam was enraged. What the f**k did Derek want with him? Then he began to panic. Brandy? More anger, Derek had caused Sam and Brandy so much pain. So much heartache and it was effortless for him. Now he was back for what? More of the same?
"Listen to me, and listen to me good, plaidy. I am going to put you down and you are going to be a man and stay the f*ck where you are. No yelling. No running. No games. I know who is coming for you, I know what is coming for you and I know how to stop her."
What?? Sam still held on to the Vampires hands tightly. All it would take was one slip of Derek's hand and Sam would be gone. What was he talking about? He knows about Maryann?
And just like that, Sam was back on safe ground. Clasping at his throat and trying to get his breath back. Coughing to clear his throat. Sam looked up at Derek, he was completely confused and more than a little wary.
Just like that, Derek spilled it all out. When he talked about Brandy and her near death experience, Sam was surprised to see his face actually show some real emotion. Maybe somewhere in his undead heart he did care for Brandy. That there was something still lingering within him that he couldn't ever let go.
"What exactly is it you want Derek?" Sam asked cautiously, but defensively. "What do you know about Maryann?" Sam eyed Derek suspiciously. He really had no reason to trust him at all. It could have been another trap for all Sam knew.

"What exactly is it you want Derek? "
"The end result? Ironically, I just want the f*ck out of this town. The lot of you are all f*cking crazy, especially the f*cking women! And before you go sprouting off some humor and say I should just leave I was planning on it until I met the beautiful maenad."
Yes, the beautiful maenad.
"What do you know about Maryann?"
"A lot more than anyone in is this f*cking town, I can tell you that. I doubt Brandy ever told you just how into the craft I was - how much I studied folklore, legend, the magicks. I knew what Maryann was the moment I saw her, but before I tell you what you want to know I want you to understand why I am doing this"
It didn't matter if Sam believed him or not, there was really no reason for Sam not to believe the 'reason' Derek was doing it.
"Call it my final "I'm Sorry"
Derek was looking toward the wall as if he could see through the wall and could see into the bedroom where Brandy was sleeping.
"As much as I admire Maryann, she shouldn't of hurt her. But that is a Maenad for you, chaos to the verge of destruction. Maryann is immortal because she believes in her own immortality so much she has made it real. The old... "I Think, Therefor I Am"
Derek wished he could of took an annoyed breath right then, there were some things he just 'missed' about being human.
"Maenad's are always waiting for their god that never comes, Dionysus. Maryann is no exception, ironically as an immortal she is seeking the one thing being immortal doesn't allow and that is death. To kill Maryanne she has to believe that she’s successfully summoned forth Dionysus. In hopes that he will ravage her - quite literally devour her. Until she’s lost into oblivion."
That was when Derek found himself looking at Sam, unanswered questions looming in his dark mind.
"To summon Dionysus she plans on sacrificing who she believes is the vessel. She wants your heart, but what I want to know is what makes you so d@mn special. Tell me, shifter, out of anybody in this f*cked up place that she could think was a vessel why is it you? You knew Maryann didn't you? Why did you get to be the lucky vessel behind door number 1?"

Sam kept a cautious distance, there was no way in hell he was trusting Derek. No matter what he said. He had everything to gain by getting rid of Sam.
"The end result? Ironically, I just want the f*ck out of this town. The lot of you are all f*cking crazy, especially the f*cking women! And before you go sprouting off some humor and say I should just leave I was planning on it until I met the beautiful maenad."
Sam just looked at him, mouth gaping. 'Beautiful Maenad'? Derek was crazier than he thought. Or was Maryann really telling the truth about what she was?
"A lot more than anyone in is this f*cking town, I can tell you that. I doubt Brandy ever told you just how into the craft I was - how much I studied folklore, legend, the magicks. I knew what Maryann was the moment I saw her, but before I tell you what you want to know I want you to understand why I am doing this"
Sam gave him a sidelong look. In truth Brandy hadn't told him much about Derek, other than he was bad news and was too into the darker side of magick. But if this dark knowledge had given him insight into Maryann?
"Call it my final "I'm Sorry"
Sam followed his eyes. Even his tone suggested he meant the words. Derek continued on, explaining more about what Maryann was, what a Maenad was. Sam just looked on, he didn't have any words yet for everything Derek was unloading upon him. Who would?
"To summon Dionysus she plans on sacrificing who she believes is the vessel. She wants your heart, but what I want to know is what makes you so d@mn special. Tell me, shifter, out of anybody in this f*cked up place that she could think was a vessel why is it you? You knew Maryann didn't you? Why did you get to be the lucky vessel behind door number 1?"
Now Sam just looked confused. He shook his head calmly, his mind reeling from everything that just happened. He was bewildered as to what Maryann wanted from him. Even back then, when he was just a young man.
"I...I have no idea what she wants me for. I'm not special, she's just crazy." Sam could barely look at Derek for the next thing he was about to say. "About ten years ago, I was on the run, homeless. I needed somewhere to go, so I found this old building...house. It seemed to be empty at first. I shifted into a beagle and went through a flap in the front door."
He sighed, and leant against the wall. Sliding downwards to a kneeling position. "She was there, she....tried to seduce me. Then something happened, she started to act strange and vibrate. But not like a shifter...this was darker, more twisted. Well, I freaked out and ran my ass outta there. Ten years later, she's in Bon Temps turning the town into lunatics."

"I...I have no idea what she wants me for. I'm not special, she's just crazy."
Derek looked amused.
"No sh!t. We are all a little crazy. Just some of us let it out more often than others."
"About ten years ago, I was on the run, homeless. I needed somewhere to go, so I found this old building...house. It seemed to be empty at first. I shifted into a beagle and went through a flap in the front door."
Derek didn't look amused anymore.
"She was there, she....tried to seduce me. Then something happened, she started to act strange and vibrate. But not like a shifter...this was darker, more twisted. Well, I freaked out and ran my ass outta there. Ten years later, she's in Bon Temps turning the town into lunatics."
"So let me get this straight, you ended up at Maryann's ten year's ago. I'm going to throw this one out there and say you were a virgin that shifted right in front of her? Probably went right in front of her little statue of fertility to I'm gonna bet. You just made yourself a f*cking sign back then and you didn't even realize it."
Back to being amused. A side cock of his head he brought his hand underneath his chin and his other hand made a mock 'gun' symbol which pointed right at Sam.
"Your going to die tonight."
Derek dropped his hands and took a step closer to Sam, closing in the space between them. Sam was in a kneeling position, so Derek had slid down so that he was in a crouching position directly in front of him.
"You and I, we are going to give Maryann what she wants. We are going to give her the god she wants. She is going to get that dagger through your heart and you will be sacrificed tonight."
Derek rose to his feet, looking down at Sam for a moment with his arms crossed. He was expecting the protest, especially as what he was about to say next.
"Brandy must not know till the very end. She will cause the distraction, and then you will take my blood and become Maryann's Dionysus. Do you understand what I'm saying Sam? Are you going to stop running away and being a coward - do you even have enough of a back bone to be a man?"
Derek knew what this meant. This meant that Sam, rather he liked it or not, only had Derek to trust. Ironic that Derek was doing this so that Sam could keep Brandy in his life. So that Sam could be the hero in the end.
"Once Maryann realizes there is no god she will die. But, I don't want her to die. You must leave everything in my hands after you have your fist through her heart - you must not kill her. You must make her think her god is ravishing her and devouring her - you must bring her to the point that she thinks her god is real. Once you know - and you will know, that she completely thinks you are her god - - you let her go. And let me handle the rest. I will make sure you never see either of us again."
